Asrock P55 Pro Usb3 RST 3TB
#1
Hi experts. I have an Asrock p55 Pro USB3 motherboard, I recently bought two 3TB WD RED HDDs to add to my raid drive, unfortunately the RST in my bios erroneously recognises the drives as 746 gigabytes instead of 2.7tb (3TB drives). Is it possible for someone to create a firmware mod for me to include support for the 3TB drives?

Motherboard home page http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/P55%20Pro...ifications

Bios downloads - http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/P55%20Pro...ad&os=BIOS

The manufacturer linked me to these raid drivers however I think they have mistaken my problem.

Thanks to anyone who can/will help! cheers! Smile

Hi bud, That flash succeeded, however it doesn't appear to work.

I'm able to modify the bios fine. But as soon as i changed the storage setting from IDE to RAID or AHCI it sort of corrupts the bios.

For one The operating system doesn't load.
Secondly After changing the storage settings to RAID mode the bios becomes inaccessible and I have to clear the cmos to regain access.

Anyway, I've re-flashed to the standard bios. Maybe I doing something wrong? I dunno. Did it work for you or did you not have a test board?

Thanks again for this!

I do NOT own that MB, I simply replaced Intel Raid Rom 9.5.0.1037 with 11.6.0.1702.
Did you Install the Matching Intel Raid Drivers BEFORE trying RAID Mode or AHCI ???
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_D...ldID=21852
or
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_D...)&lang=eng
I can try using v10.6.0.1091 which is the first Raid rom released that supports 3 TB HDDs but you will still need to Install the Matching RIAD Drivers.
Do you want to try that ?

Hi DMAN. I didn't get a hardware or HDD error of any kind just a flickering underscore at the top left of the screen. Is this indicative of a driver failure?
I don't have my OS installed on my RAID drive but my secondary SATA card/other HDD (which my OS is installed on) could be running in AHCI mode I suppose. I'll try to update the drivers and then flash the bios and see if that fixes my problem.
Just seemed unusual that after I made the RAID setting change I couldn't even get back into the bios without clearing the CMOS. I mean it shouldn't be attempting to access my OS drivers from the HDD straight after booting, that shouldn't inhibit using the BIOS as per usual. Not that I'm an expert...

It may not work with the newer RAID ROMs, Not all MBs can use them.
I haven't seen any problems with your Specific MB but it may need an older Raid Rom to function properly and there is no guarantee that it can use the 10.6 or newer (3 TB capable) ORoms.
I suggest you Google your MB model and see what other people tha thave the EXACT same MB have done.
I have a Gigabyte P55A-UD4P and it doesn't have any trouble with the 11.6 Raid Rom so I know it's not a P55 Chipset Limitation.

Hi DMANN. I performed some pretty thorough google searches before I posted here. I was unable to get really any decent answer for my query. I then googled for the same RST error with 746 GB showing up for 3TB. I found a few threads regarding modding the bios where people had success, thats why I posted here as it appeared to be my only solution other than new RAID card or buy a new mobo.

If it's simple for you to do could you perhaps do a build of v10.6.0.1091 for me? At least then I would have two modded bioses to test with and that would be a pretty conclusive answer. I will update all my installed drivers first this time. Thanks again mate, your a legend!

You can try this one:

Use with these RAID Drivers:

hey DMAN I tried both of the bioses again after updating the RAID drivers and no luck.
Pretty much exhibiting the same symptoms as before.

Regardless of what settings I set in the bios the usual Intel RST hard drive configuration tool screen never appears. In it's place is a small strobing underscore _ and the operating system never gets a chance to load. Now if I change the bios storage config to RAID/AHCI then I get the same symptoms as above however I also cannot get back into the bios config without flashing the CMOS. It seems like something is missing or incorrect, it looks like it is trying to load the RST rom but it's either failing or maybe it's just going to take forever.

Is it possible it just needs some time to do some processing of some kind?

If that's not the case then I guess I'm back to square one and will have to find some alternate solution; either new Mobo or RAID controller. Thanks for all your help DMAN, your a right up champ for doing that for me!!

Hi DMAN.

Asrock support provided me this new alpha build of the BIOS. Now ironically the RST menu functions and detects my 3TB drives.

However when my Asrock mobo SATA mode is set to RAID my silicon PCI SATA controller wont detect via plug and play and I can no longer boot from it. I was hoping you may have an understanding of the problem and if so you could maybe fix it. Otherwise I'm at the mercy of Asrock support, they have been surprisingly helpful so far however they aren't consistent with the comms and I have no idea if they intend to help me further.

Hopefully you can help me out, cheers mate!
