HP Pavilion DV5-1190EG F.21 (Broadcom BCM4311)(VEN_14E4&DEV_4312&SUBSYS_1371103C)
#1
Dear Bios Modders

Angel Merry Christmas everyone! Angel

I am looking for a removal of the Wifi Whitelist in the Bios of the DV5-1190eg.

This Laptop is an Inel based Core2Duo with an "insyde" Bios, the current Release is "F.21" and the ID is "3603".

Currently ist seems to be, that only an Intel 5100 Wifi Adapter is allowed, even other Mini PCI-E Adapters from HP (as the Broadcom BCM4311 based HP Part number 441075-002) are leading to the anoying Error 104.

Is it possible to remove the whitelist (that of courde would be the best solution) or whitelist the BCM4311?

The link to the original Bios is: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45138.exe

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks and kind regards
Jan

I looked for the Hardware IDs (via the Vista Hardware manager / The BCM was plugged in while the Boot of Windows):

The Intel 5100 (which is shipped with the DV5 and which is in the Whitelist:
PCI/VEN_8086&DEV_4237&SUBSYS_12118086&REV_00
PCI/VEN_8086&DEV_4237&SUBSYS_12118086
PCI/VEN_8086&DEV_4237&CC_028000
PCI/VEN_8086&DEV_4237&CC_0280

The Broadcom BCM4311 based HP 441075-002 which should be whitelisted:
PCI/VEN_14E4&DEV_4312&SUBSYS_1371103C&REV_02
PCI/VEN_14E4&DEV_4312&SUBSYS_1371103C
PCI/VEN_14E4&DEV_4312&CC_028000
PCI/VEN_14E4&DEV_4312&CC_0280

Kind regards

Hello Jan

We can replace the ID's of the old card with the ID's of the new one (So the old card wont work anymore but the new one will Big Grin)

Plz can you provide us with the DEV , VEN and SUBSYS ID'es for both the old and new card. You can get this information from the device properties , look at the screenshot below.

If your not sure how to grab the new card details , you can boot up with the supported card in , then swap them over once the machine has booted. This will "Skip" the bios check and allow you to get the ID's for the new card.

Good Luck!

Dear Admin,

thank you very much for your reply.

Firstly I tried the recovery procedure as described in the HowTo Section of the Board, but it doesnt seem to work on my Laptop. Maybe there is no recovery routine included in the current Bios? Huh

To be on the save side, I followed your advise and swapped to Wifi Adapter during power-on and got the following results:

The Intel 5100 (which is shipped with the DV5 and which is in the Whitelist):
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4237&SUBSYS_12118086&REV_00
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4237&SUBSYS_12118086
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4237&CC_028000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4237&CC_0280

The Broadcom BCM4311 based HP 441075-002 which should be whitelisted:
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4312&SUBSYS_1371103C&REV_02
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4312&SUBSYS_1371103C
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4312&CC_028000
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4312&CC_0280

Does this includes all the Information you need?

Thank you very much.

Kind regards

Dear Admin,

thank you very much for your effort, but I only got mixed results:

I flashed the modded Bios, and the Laptop is still alive, but nothing had changed.

The "old" Intel Card is still working and the new Broadcom results in Error 104.

I have double checked, that I really have flashed the new, downloaded file and the Flash utility ended with a reboot without any Error Message.

Do you have any Idea?

Kind regards
Jan

PS:
The Timestamps of the FD-Files have not changed, compared with the original Bios.

Dear Admin,

whow, the modded Bios works perfect! This is a perfect start into the new Year!

After flashing the Bios I got the (expected) 104 with the "old" Card. After inserting the "new" one, the Boot completed without errors. Big Grin

Thank you very much for your work, it helped me tremendous.

Kind regards and a happy new Year
