[READ FIRST] Access Advanced settings through EFI shell
(08-04-2013, 10:50 PM)gygabyte666 Wrote: I am looking to enable my APIC tables.

I think your slightly confused about what your requesting. Your advanced programmable interrupt controller (APIC) is one of several tables in your advanced configuration and power interface (ACPI). All of its tables are required to make your computer run correctly, so they're not usually disabled Tongue

You can usually change the ACPI standard in your bios from version 1.0 - 4.0. Is this what your asking for?

I was trying to fix my lapic issue in my laptop. Seems to be a known issue in HP laptops. I was informed that if I had an Advanced BIOS option (which I clearly do not), I could navigate to Advanced-->Tables-->APIC and enable that to fix it. So, I assumed that maybe this was possible using EFI shell.

I've never heard that that issue could be fixed by changing a bios setting. It'd be really weird if your computer didn't have an APIC table at all times. I assume your talking about mackintosh, so I'd recommend you just patch your kernel with my lapic kernel patcher Big Grin

I'll still take a look at your bios later today to see if any APIC settings exist Big Grin

@gygabyte666 Unfortunately your bios are encrypted in a way that Andy's tool can't decrypt yet so I don't have access to the setup utility module. Would you mind dumping your decrypted bios? You can find the instructions here.

Hello again,

My apologies for the confusion but I don't believe it has to do so much with missing the tables but more along the lines of fixing a specific section of them. At least, it's what I'm being leas to believe. Again, sorry for the confusion. If I could think of anything else in place of that, I would. >_<

Yes, this is for OS X BTW. I thought I searched everywhere for a patcher such as that but never came across it. I will most certainly check that out. Thanks! Thank you for looking into it for me. Smile

Can't be decrypted yet huh? Figures. OK though, sure thing, as soon as I can. I'll try to dump mine for you. Really appreciate the help and your patience with my...lack of understanding. Sad

Ok, I got it! Big Grin

I kept the HP naming scheme to avoid confusion mostly for myself. I also zipped it up to prevent corruption or any other weirdness from happening to it.

Since the forum has a super lame upload limit, I had to upload it to my Dropbox. I hope that isn't a problem. I hope it's what you needed. Thanks again for the assist. Smile

Nice job, but Andy's tool still can't open it. Maybe HPs implementing a different type of compression into its newest bios Huh

Lets try one more thing before we give up. Upload the rom that's created with this tool. Just hit read first then backup.

*sigh* Still a no go huh? HP really doesn't want people messing with their stuff do they? Ok, I did what you suggested. Hopefully, this one plays nicely. Here's the new file:

I agree. HP is the only manufacture who keeps increasing the security of modifying their bios. I don't understand why, It's not like root kits are a big problem.

So good news. That bios dump was decryptable. So you have 2 settings related to APIC:

1. APIC - IO APIC Mode: This item is valid only for WIN2k and WINXP.Also,a fresh install of the OS must occur when APIC Mode is desired.Test the IO ACPI by setting item to Enable. The APIC Table will then be pointed to by the RSDT,the Local APIC will be initialized, and the proper enable bits will be set in ICH4M
To enable: setup_var 0x54 0x1

2. xAPIC Mode: Enable / Disable xAPIC Mode
To enable: setup_var 0x1af 0x1

I personally don't believe either of these settings will solve the lapic issue with hackintosh, but your free to give them a try. Just be aware that changing some settings can result in hardware damage/failure. That's the reason that the OEM hides these type of settings from the end users. It's entirely your decision if you want to try changing them. Thus you are the only one who will be held reasonable if something goes bad.
