Where is the Embedded Key Embedded?
#1
Hi all.

I came across a strange phenomenon.

The short question is that all "user" sections cannot be rewritten even with a generic flasher.

My new laptop came with Windows 8 preinstalled.
Obviously it has a Windows 8 product key embedded "somewhere" because it does not require me to enter a key even when I use a retail (not recovery) disc for clean reinstallation of Windows and RWEverything always shows as an MSDM report an identical single key.

I recently disassembled my laptop to find the bios chip directly soldered on the system board. The IC is a Winbond W25Q64BVSSIG and has a capacity of 64 Mbit (8 MB).

The laptop manufacturer has released a bios update for my one and it can be expanded into several files including a .rom (size: 8,388,608 bytes) and a Windows flasher.

The rom size was found exactly equal to 8.00 MB and I wanted to rewrite ALL sections (just out of interest or curiosity).

The most reliable method for that would be romoving the bios chip from the mainboard to reprogram it on an IC programmer connected with a pc. Unfortunately the chip is not socketted and I do not have a skill to desolder the 1/5 inch sq chip however (but have a friend ready to help me recover it if it bricked).

So I then downloaded a dos flasher and gave it try with a "(program) ALL" option. Flashing itself successful and the product key keeps as before however...

Why does the flasher know the MSDM table?
Why is the rom size exactly the same as the chip capacity though it does not be replaced entirely with the old one?

Thanx!

Is that the only thing you could think of??
You idiot never guessed any other thing like someone want to install a pro edition without a cfg file??

Give Florin9doi some [censored] respect. He knows more about computers than you ever will. It's extremely obvious that you stole that laptop. There's no other reason that someone would legitimately want to remove the product key that they paid for when they bought the computer Dodgy

N00bs like you don't just open a brand new $500+ computer just because they're curious. Your clearly trying to cover up your tracks, but you had to ask for help from others because you too much of an idiot to do it yourself. And what's up with your post containing an enormous amount of technical errors. I was laughing so hard by the time I finished reading it. Can't you even use the proper nomenclature when referring to elementary concepts? Tongue

ill tell you one useful thing zak.
if someone want to stray from the point of your question
and put you down saying like "youre writing gibberish!" or
"use english plz!" or "r u criminal?" its because thats
the only thing he can do.
he just doesnt have a correct answer to give or enough ability
to understand your question.
he could write better english than you but thats all.
he doesnt know a single croatian or serbian or chinese word.
he helps people modify bios copyrighted by the vendor whereas
says that you tried something illegal. speculation? delusion?
the answer is very simple. he does not know how you can erase
the exsisting key on YOUR notebook!
hes got mad just because you made a question he couldnt answer
due to his lack of ability!

take it ez!Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

Thanks for your word of encouragement, Xu T-Z.
I'm now thinking I'll post my question to another forum by "copy & paste".
