Hello, I am requesting slic 2.1 mod for a Dell Precision Workstation 340

sorry for writing in this old thread.

Finally, I just succeded in modding the BIOS, for Dell Precision Workstation 340, latest version A07 !

Many thanks to AndyP/MDL for his wonderful PhoenixTool 2.19 !!

REMEMBER YOU DO THIS AT OWN RISK, IM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY HAPPEN !!!
BIOS UPDATE IS ALWAYS A RISK !!! YOU DO AT YOUR OWN RISK !!!

How to mod:
1. Use fresh clean installed Windows XP with Servicepack 2 only, no updates, no antivirus
2. Install NetFramework 1.1, then Windows Installer 3.1, then NetFrameWork 2.0 SP2
3. Download required BIOS from Dell (WS340A07.EXE) and copy it in a new folder, example C:\DELL
4. Open command prompt, navigate to the folder, example C:\DELL
5. In this folder type WS340A07.EXE -writehdrfile, it will create another file WS340A07.HDR
6. Use PhoenixTool 2.19, open this .HDR file, select manufacturer Dell, choose wanted SLIC binary
7. Patch it with SSV2 mod
8. Now you have the _SLIC.HDR file

How to flash:
1. Download DCCU_3.0.EXE (Dell Client Configuration Utility) from Dell
2. It will only work with Windows XP Service Pack 2 as described in how to mod point 1+2 !
3. It will only work with Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 !!
4. Install the DCCU, takes some time, after that, restart computer
5. Start DCCU, takes some time
6. Open your _SLIC.HDR file with it, and check allow bios downgrade
7. Then click to build your update package, it will create an .EXE file named Bios_UpdateWS340A07.EXE
8. This update package can only be run under Windows !
9. When you run this package, wait for the system reboot itselfs
10. Done

I have 7 of these critters so if I blow up one or two it's no biggie. I doubt there will be problems.

I like the idea of flashing the bios without the use of a floppy disk, which is how I've gotten a couple of them up to A07. My floppies are 20 years old so it took a while to get a good disk and a good drive (which I promptly made an image of)

I'll let you know how it goes!
