[REQUEST] Lenovo G500 (78CNxxWW) Whitelist Removal
So I have the same laptop and my new WiFi card is coming today. I was hoping you could clarify.

I can't seem to determine if people are modifying the BIOS file that is downloaded from Lenovo's website... or if they are somehow doing a dump of their BIOS directly from their laptop.. modding that file.. and then re-flashing that file back (and thus it only works on that specific laptop).

Yelenavik,

Normally it sounds like you can't use the bios for somebody else but you did and it worked? Do you have the same Video Card "Ven_8086 Dev_0156?

Yelenavik,

THANK YOU!!!! I took a chance and Success. No Warnings about my new card. Bought an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 from Amazon for $14 and now I'm running N at 130 Mbs (currently don't have 20/40 on) instead of the BroadComms 72 Mbs speed.

And the best part was Windows 8.1 automatically knew what the card was and so I didn't even have to install any drivers. I did notice that the SLIC is now gone but I don't care. That was a pain anyway because my Key was for Win 8 Home and I already owned Win 8.1 Pro so I had to do a base install just to do an upgrade.... anyway.. back on topic... NO MORE WHITELIST!!!

Greetings:

Kindly requesting a modded BIOS for Lenovo G500 laptop

BIOS file for this computer is 78cn23ww V2.01 ~>Download Link: http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/78cn23ww.exe

The extracted WinVIWGP201.ROM has been uploaded to
here: ~> http://rghost.net/51858728

Looking to replace the wifi card with Intel 7260HMW IEEE 802.11AC, dual-band, 2x2 Wi-Fi plus Bluetooth 4.0 Mini PCI Express combo Adapter, which is not included in the BIOS whitelist.

The existing wifi card is Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter + BT Combo Card. Ven ID 0x14E4 and Dev ID 0x4727

If anyone has a procedure for brick recovery of a Lenovo G500 with Insyde H20 BIOS, that would be useful information for reference.

Finally, is it safe to flash BIOS for this laptop via a DOS bootable USB with flashit.exe and running C:\> flashit.exe WinVIWGP201.ROM /all -MC ?

I would like to be able to upgrade and downgrade BIOS via flashing from DOS.

Or is the preferred way to upgrade or downgrade BIOS to use InsydeFlash.exe via Windows 7 ?

I read somewhere that DOS flashing via flashit.exe could result in bricking due to RSA signing or some other unintended process.

Cheers!

As follow-up, read this excellent tutorial: http://www.bios-mods.com/bios-recovery/i...-recovery/

Appears to give the procedure to recover a bricked laptop, however, read from a post on another site that Lenovo computers require that the battery remain in the laptop during the recovery process. I cannot confirm this having never bricked the G500. If anyone has recovered a recent model Lenovo laptop, please share your procedure.

Also followed the guidance at on this thread: http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Im...oses--6899

This Andy's Phoenix tool is quite handy. Have determined that the BIOS is not RSA Encrypted, as the first pop up message box did not say "decrypted". First line in view field says "Start Extracting". Good deal.

Also was informed by Andy's tool that the recovery file name for this BIOS is: VIWGPX64.F?

I assume the question mark is required so the extension as a recovery flash would be .F?

Cheers!
