[REQUEST] HP Dv7-6c00 wifi whitelist
#1
Hewlett-Packard Dv7-6c00
HP motherboard 1802 10.5A
Bios type and version, according to CPU-Z: Hewlett-Packard F.1C 1-23-2013

When I updated it a while back, the installation had the Insyde logo.

Old wifi adapter: Intel Centrino wireless-N 1030

New wifi adapter: Intel 7260AC 7260HMW

If possible, remove the list entirely to add any card I like. I get my BIOS from:

Unfortunatley your bios have HP's RSA signature verification check on startup. Any modifications to these bios will cause the verification to fail and result in a brick. Because of this, these bios are currently unmoddable. Sorry Sad

Yes. I actually was modding the oldest version released for yout computer, F.12, a few months ago. Any modifications to it results in a brick. I was suprised by this because I've never seen a bios lowers than sp55xx have the RSA startup check before. So the F.12 must have been one of the first versions released that had this.

If someone was to add all of the new wifi card's IDs to the bios, would it have no effect?

Adding/changing the wifi cards' IDs in the bios woud require modifying the bios rom. This will change it's signature, cause it to fail the check, and brick.

wow.... thanks HP. Now what if we looked at preventing it from doing a signature check?

Now your in the right mind set. From what I can gather, HP's RSA bios have 2 checks. One preformed by the PEI to verify itself first, and one preformed by the DXE to verify itself after PEI finishes. There's a module in the DXE Core named something like 'RSASHA1.efi' that I believe is what's used by both rely on to preform the verifications. The issue with testing out modifications on these bios is that if we fail then we end up with a bricked laptop, and we'll have to recover. So it's very time consuming to isolate down how to bypass the checks. And that's why these bios have been unmoddable for 2 years Sad

and there's no way to fix a brick, is there?
