HP A8M2N-LA (Naos) Phenom / Phenom II support request
#1
Hi there, I've got a Compaq SR2010NX that was given to me and I'd like to upgrade it, but it only supports up to an Athlon X2 5000+. I would like to see if it's possible to add support for a Phenom or Phenom II processor.

Here's the link to the original bios for my system.
http://rs285.rapidshare.com/files/314056...00BIOS.BIN

I have tried looking for a BIOS that has the support I'm looking for, but they all have modules that my bios doesn't have (i.e. MINIT, NCPUCODE).

Thanks for your time.

Yeah, it seems that all the boards with the Phenom lineup have been using the new MEMINIT module, but Ill see if i can't find a standard Phenom 1 board without that module, may be hard though.

I've looked at a couple dozen so far, and they all have them. I wonder if it has to be called from another module, or it the main BIOS will just execute the meminit module because it's there like it does NIC and VBIOS modules. Does the AGESA module call it?

I have managed to update the CPUCODE.BIN from 4k to 28k by cutting and pasting microcode from various other boards into the module, and I updated to AGESA 6.1.0.0, but I don't know if it'll work or not without having meminit in there...

I'll have to wait until my hot spare comes in before I actually try it all out though.

Where did you get an AGESA 6.1.0.0? The altst Gigabyte boards all use 3.5.1 Also, the CPUCODE is good to upgrade, but that will only be good for microcodes. I've been trying diligently to either A. discover a holy grail bios without MEMINIT and Phenom support, or B. Find where it is in the main system block that calls meminit.

It was in a DFI AM3 board. I can attach it and it's corresponding meminit.bin file if you'd like (and if it's permissable).

Permissable? and yes, an attachment would be good. I think the form filter may not let u upload bins (cant remember), but zips work just as well.

I don't want to do things that aren't allowed.

I'll just give you the whole BIOS file that has it and you can pick through it and see if there's anything else you find interesting.

Thanks Ryan, and just so you know, we are much farther along with CPU AMD upgrades than rebel havens is. Polygon can't even figure out how to modify NCPUCODE.BIN, but to each his own Big Grin

haha, i'm not trying to start a forum war here. lol But I have definitely learned more about the inner working of x86 systems in the last week than I have in the last 15 years by just trying to under stand how the Award BIOS works.

I did find a site that might be helpful. assuming you don't already know about it. http://sites.google.com/site/pinczakko/ It for the older Award BIOS 4.51, but it seems like a lot of things still apply for Award BIOS 6.00

Well, considering that, he's very strict in saying "it's impossible to add Phenom support!".
He even deleted my post in which I linked to this forum.
