Estupendo.

I've read thru this entire thread ... and have a couple questions before installing the latest bios that's been so kindly posted here. Thanks for all the work, and education!

My R3E is working ok (with the latest "official" ASUS bios, in bios1), but I'd like to optimize the drives.

I currently have 2 large HDDs set as a large RAID 0 array, on the ICH10R ports, along with my (recent acquisition) Samsung 840EVO ssd. The latter is connected as a single drive, non raid.

Currently, I have the Samsung as my boot drive.

Questions:

1) If I switch to bios2, then update to the ZioMod bios, will the RAID array settings still be the same, or will I have to rebuild it?

2) If so, will it still be usable if I switch back to bios 1?

I'd like the RAID array to work on either bios, if possible. I guess the question is, is the RAID setup independent of the BIOS used?

3) I understand the for a Raid set, using the ICH10R ports rather than the Marvell ports, is optimal ... but for a single SSD, is that also the case?

4) If I was to use the Marvell for a single SSD, assuming it's faster than using it on one of the intel ports, is it safe to use as a boot drive?

I had previously used an OCZ vector off the marvell port as boot drive, and it was working fine for almost a year, until it bricked overnight (and has been replaced by OCZ, just not yet re-installed.)

Thanks for any sage advice!

..Mike

I would use the Samsung as the boot drive on Intel port 0 in AHCI mode and then use Windows raid for the two large hdd. Then install the ocz.

Then install the latest Samsung rapid mode driver and enjoy.

Or get another Evo and use INTEL raid 0 for the OS and Intel RAID 0 for the Hdds. The ocz will still work as single drive in raid mode just fine. Or use the marvel in that case.

... or you could just put all your drives on the Intel, with the Samsung as a single primary boot drive. Switching from bios1 to bios2 won't affect your raid setup whatsoever, provided you configure your bios parameters to correctly recognize your drives. In the setup I suggested above, you'll have to set the Intel as Raid.

I suggest latest Marvel drivers and 11.7.4.1001 Intel drivers for best performance/stability.
