[READ FIRST] Access Advanced settings through EFI shell
Hello guys,

Ii've exactly the same bios version with skylaw and socalav, and I just need to activate the AHCI option of the bios to lauch the hackintosh install. I'm little bit beginner in this world btw.

How can we activate it in the EFI shell plz ?

Thanks !

You need to extract the internal forms representation from the setup utiliy module in your bios rom so that you can see what offsets the options correspond to. You can use CodeRush's UEFITool to extract the setup utility module from your rom.

Then you'll need to use either Falseclock's perl script or Universal IFR Extractor to see the options contained in the module. This will give you all the information you need to change the option's setting.

Then all that's left is changing the value of the option in an EFI environment Big Grin

Ok thank your for your fast answer, but how can I extract the bios ROM from a setup file such as http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63801.exe ?

Hi, Id like to get my bios modded so I can enable AHCI mode. I read through all 20 pages and only saw a couple requests with the same version as mine. Im still a bit confused and just want to avoid bricking the laptop. Any assistance is appreciated!

-Motherboard Manufacturer and Model : HP Envy DV6 7292NR http://bit.ly/LFQJug
-Bios Version : F.29
-Bios Revision: 3.7
-Bios Type : Insyde H20
-Bios SLIC : 2.0
-Bios Link : https://www.dropbox.com/s/r3bm3olpxew0qsj/sp63801.exe
-Universal Bios Backup: https://www.dropbox.com/s/owgocfk7vyx1pf...e-F.29.rom
-Rw : https://www.dropbox.com/s/rnblzbk6616yd9c/AcpiTbls.rw

Thanks for all your hard work!

Edit: I just saw the link that donovan posted, Im going to attempt this on my own but id feel more secure flashing something prepared by a pro Smile
Also, Im currently running a SSD for my OS and a HDD for storage. I used a bootloader on the HDD so the laptop would let me boot into the SSD. Will I still need this workaround when once AHCI mode is being used? Here is the bootloader workaround for reference http://bit.ly/1eu3fYp

Edit2:This is as far as I got with the translated instructions. Step 13 I dont know anything about perl but I tried my best.

Edit3: My laptop suffered a motherboard power failure this month so Im waiting on repairs. Hoping to flash a new bios on it when I get it back. Willing to donate some funds

3 weeks ago, when I came to this forums I was a newbie for BIOS modding or accessing it's hidden options.

But I searched a lot of information over internet and found some smart hints.

Having a huge programming skills in disassembling and ASN.1 data reading/parsing I realized a good way to change bios settings without modding.

I have HP Pavillion dv7 7171er with Insyde H2O RSA signed bios.

I found the way how to get it decrypted but all attempts to flash modded bios with patched DLL was unsuccessful. Each time I had to recover my Laptop with Win+B restoring.

On 15th time when by laptop was bricked again I decided to disassemble Setup Menu and found where needed options for me are hidden and how to access them for changes.

So here is small part of decompiled Setup Menu.

As you can see, it is realy represent's what we see in reality.

So now I need 2-3 BIOSes to proof my concept.

If you need to enable AHCI for example of change something else. please post you BIOS links here.

I will test and after 100% success I will write GUIDE and provide source code.

IMPORTANT: This is related only newest BIOSes which are not encrypted.
If it is RSA signed, you will need additional steps. I will inform you in this case.

Moderators, please pin this topic for some time.
You can always unpin in the feature.

Thumbs Up
Hi!

I really like the idea of modifying EFI vars only...

I personally hope to install a second HDD/SDD and have it initialized correctly. With the stock rom, the second (optical bay bound) SATA link seems to be bound to and DVD/CD-ROM device only.
