Sony Vaio VGN-FE830FE (Phoenix R0200J3)
#1
Well, this thread could be more of a question rather than a request, apologies if this doesn't fit here

I've already found a thread which sort of solves the issue for some users but I don't know if my laptop model applies for that matter (same BIOS model, but not exactly same laptop, the Sony specs sheet hints at some Intel 945GM chipset but couldn't find much relevant info on the matter about the mobo)

This is the thread I'm talking about: http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-So...1M-R0200J3

Furthermore, will this even help me make better RAM work on this? The Vaio uses 8 black chips per stick, with a grand total of 1gb with the two 8-chip sticks (I don't know if they should be called sticks, so correct me if I'm wrong) while the new RAM sticks use 16 chips per stick, but I've found out it still boots into BIOS settings just fine with these and detects the 3gb of RAM, just sort of refuses to boot into windows or my multiboot usb (which did work before the "upgrade")
In other words, does RAM density still matter when booting into anything when the BIOS seems to work? Or is it just another "masterwork" setup by Sony?

Gonna leave my backup as an attachment just in case, any help would be appreciated

They are differents, but many modules are similar !.
The only modded is R0170J3.WPH for Sony Vaio VGN-FE31M (VGN-FE890XX), your isn't available, as Sony Vaio VGN-FE41M (VGN-FE830XX) has this bios R0200J3.WPH.
I can give a look to try get a swap mdules for You if do You want !
Someone wrotes It works on Sony Vaio VGN-FE41M, but I don't know.

Uh, swap modules? you mean as in modifying the bios beyond the setup menu?
I'm usually not afraid to mess with something so long as there's a way back but this one seems particularly delicate, and I wouldn't want to have this laptop inevitably polymorphed into a paperweight
If it's not too risky and the recovery process should it fail is surefire then I suppose there's little to no reason to back off on this (RAM usage goes a little beyond 90% with skype and chrome open, superfetch disabled, so on the optimistic side a paperweight isn't very different from this anyway)
