[REQUEST] Enable Non-Signed UEFI Boot Unlock for HP DV6-4008TX
#11

Thanks I had a look, couldn't see anything.

When i reverted to F.0F official, FN + F12 (wifi) still didn't work, it seems the bios configuration changes are not overwritten by F.0F official, I could tell because I had set it to use 1 CPU core only and still it showed 2 threads in windows, not the usual 8 threads (4 cores).

Reverted to F.0B and now still shows 1 CPU core (2 threads) that I set earlier in your BIOS but good news is Wifi key works again.

I can't tell if the Mute key not working is a bios problem or not. From what I remember it should work without additional software and have installed the HP onscreen display software just in case.

I am going to reinstall your bios so I can enable all the CPU cores again, revert the other change I made, then install F.0B then F.0F.

BIOS has nothing to do with the FN Keys not working... at least I've never seen such thing...
Do you need help on something more? I think yes on disabling secure boot, right?

It seems that the FN key behaviour on the DV6-4008TX is reversed, I found this on Linux previously but assumed it was a kernel bug. The behaviour is the same on windows. Press FN + F11 to mute is not required, only pressing F11 is needed to mute and FN+F11 creates the F11 behaviour. This is why my mute wouldn't work.

So I tested on your bios F.0F and the brightness/mute all work. However the wireless still does not (when pressing F12 or FN+F12). Which suggests possibly a problem with the whitelist behaviour? I will be reverting to the Original F.0F bios to confirm.

I don't need the secure boot feature like the other guy, have not tested it, just interested in removing the whitelist and checking if disable cores reduces heat from this laptop.

It is that, usually, white list on HP notebooks just prevents from booting, once it boots, the wireless card can be used normally, you can do the following experiment, replace the wlan card with the OEM one and see if it works (fn key), if it does, but does not with the another wlan card, then we can assume it is white list and proceed on trying to remove it

Yeah I thought so too, that it prevents it from booting. I have reverted from Your F.0F to official F.0F and the wifi works again, so it looks as though the whitelist has been overwritten.

This is HP certified card 619997-001 (i.e. the 6250 advanced-N) which works fine normally.

Is it possible for instance that the bios is detecting a non-whitelisted card and just keeps the hardware switch to disabled but allows boot up for instance. I could test this behaviour with a non-whitelisted card later on (when my 7260 arrives). To determine if it's a problem with the whitelist or a general bios problem.

edit: confirmed the fault twice, installed your F.0F against and reverted to official F.0F again.

I don't have the original hardware ID for the wireless card that came with this machine - maybe someone else will post it. Service manual says it accepts:

Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMax 6250 WLAN module for use in the United States 619997-001
Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000 802.11b/g/n 1×2 WLAN module 593530-001

Ralink RT3090BC4 802.11b/g/n 1×1 WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR Combo Adapter (BT3.0+HS
ready) 630705-001

Intel 6250 that I have atm (an upgrade):
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0089&SUBSYS_13118086&REV_57
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0089&SUBSYS_13118086
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0089&CC_028000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0089&CC_0280

I don't have the 7260 yet, it's in the mail - there's quite a few hardware IDs in the inf file:

These are all the ones where the device was named "GEN" (I assume that means Genuine Intel or generic) and had "AC" in the name. The rest start "ASUS" and "DELL" and "IM" and "AUTO"

All the 7260 device IDs are: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_08B1 or PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_08B2

Also you told that other was not working, what was the HWID for the one that is not working?

This one works on Official F.0B and F.0F but not the modded F.0F bios. This is the card I used last 2 years. It's the only card I have to test your modded bios with atm.

The card i'm getting to replace this is of course is the 7260.

Thanks again
