M2N68-LA Narra2-GL8E motherboard
#1
Question
Hi all,

I want to replace my seemingly malfunctioning motherboard - M2N68-LA Narra2-GL8E - but I can't seem to be able to find exactly the same one.
What I noticed is the "Narra" increase (Narra 2,3,4 etc), I assume that's a revision???
My question is which motherboard should I get that would be compatible with the rest of my system? I've been researching for hours and can't find an answer. You guys are the first I found that seem to have substantial knowledge in these matters.

Thanks in advance.

Hi panosa73.

sorry for responding very late to this but I recently repaired a broken HP computer that used to have the M2N68-LA Narra2-GL8E board and I got the part numbers for the Narra/Narra2/Narra3 boards (there was no Narra4).

For Narra-GL8E (Narra1) it's HP pn 5188-7684, for Narra2-GL8E it's pn 5188-8534 and for Narra3-GL8E it's pn 5189-1661.

There are some notable differences with the boards.  Narra-GL8E uses Realtek ALC888 audio while Narra2 & higher boards use Realtek ALC888S audio. The Narra3-GL8E board has 2 PCIe slots & 1 PCI slot while the older Narra boards have 2 PCI slots & 1 PCIe slot.

If you want to replace the Narra2-GL8E board with the exact same board, google search for and order P/N 5188-8534.
Or if you want to replace it with Narra3-GL8E, order P/N 5189-1661.  The Narra3 boards can support AMD quad-core CPUs while the earlier Narra & Narra2 boards can't.

hi bigfm2014 - 1 short beep & 1 long beep on boot means system board or motherboard failure. time to change or replace your narra2 board
