I believe the rghost link here: http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Un...0#pid69910

http://rghost.net/54142426

I have a Aspire V3-551G and I'm looking to flash a custom BIOS with unlocked settings to it pretty much.

Hmm, did a bit of reading, and also checked all the BIOS links in this thread (used a proxy; guess rghost is being blocked for some reason here) and all of them were deleted it seems.

I'm still pretty interested in a custom BIOS for this laptop though. Can anyone provide one by some chance? I'm using 2.14 currently.

Ok friend,
use this tool and run It as Administrator, You'll get a result file then upload It here :

I'll be able to run it a bit later, but had two questions about it:

1. Is there a Linux-alternative of that tool (or something else to grab that kind of info) by some chance (I'm on Linux atm, but plan on switching back to Windows a bit later)?

Edit: Here's a dmidecode just in-case it helps: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=UDFw7Qpx

2. Does it matter what OS/firmware conditions I run this file as (Windows 7 in Legacy Boot, or Windows 8.1 in UEFI Boot, Secure Boot Enabled or Disabled)? Ideally, I'd be running Windows 8.1 with Secure Boot enabled primarily.

Here's the result.rar also (ran from Windows 8.1 with UEFI boot + Secure Boot enabled): http://puu.sh/97mBZ/9f019a35d4.rar

Here's another result.rar also (ran from Windows 7 x64 in Legacy boot): http://puu.sh/97pY3/d0a0049622.rar

I am sorry You have an AMD CPU and FPT is Intel Tool to write directly into Eeprom all data, so You cannot use this one and We have only the Recovery Mode to try !
Lately Recovery Mode don't works any more as the manufacturers are protecting Eeprom Memory by writing It so We can only to try, if we got an error, last chance is SPI External Programmer and POMONA Soic Clip !

EFI / Insyde BIOS
Recovery filenames are:

Here is your Generalized Modded Recovry File v.2.14, unpack and rename file as BIOS.fd :

http://rghost.net/56022945

Copy It into an USB Fat3 Formatted Stick and use Recovery Procedure !

-. Performing the emergency flash:

- Shutdown the netbook (notebook)
- Remove all peripheral devices
- Remove battery, Remove AC power cord
- Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds (battery and AC power still out), then release
- Put the USB Memory Stick in the USB port
- Hold "Fn" + "Esc" and plug the AC power cord in
- Now press the power button (whilst still holding Fn + Esc).
Wait until the fan will run, then release "Fn" + "Esc" keys
- The fan will run for about 2-10 minutes and the USB drive activity LED will blink
- I think the netbook rebooted automatically. If it doesn't, unplug the AC power cord once the fan has turned off

The bios should be updated with the modified BIOS, and boot as per normal.

Just wanted to say thanks! The BIOS flashed and works fine Smile It's shocking how many settings weren't available before.

I used a SanDisk Cruzer (16GB). I have a 4GB flash drive, but the laptop would only boot-loop with it in, so it's possible certain flash drives are just incompatible.

Here's what I did to prepare a flash drive:

- Inserted it
- Did diskpart commands
Code:
diskpart
list disk
select disk 1
clean
create partition primary
format fs=fat32 quick
active
assign
exit
- Transfered over BIOS.fd
