Help unlocking Vaio SZ71VN bios please.
#1
Hi,
I have just installed a Samsung SSD into my Vaio but there is no AHCI option in the BIOS. I have searched about the internet for an amended version but haven't found one for my model of laptop, I have found them for the version of the BIOS it uses, R0122S5, but am not sure if you can use R0122S5 from any laptop and just flash that onto my laptop (as there is a version of R0122S5 on this forum that has been enabled but for a different Vaio model). I'm thinking it may brick it hence coming here. All I'd like is to be able to see the option to use AHCI, there is absolutely nothing in there at the moment. I have installed WinPhlash on the laptop and can see how to load it, I just need the file to load please. I am doing this from work so can't do a back-up of the current BIOS but it can be downloaded here http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/content...VGN-SZ71VN I realise this is for Vista, I am running Windows 7 Ulimate 32 bit, but Sony haven't offered an update to the BIOS since Vista so this is it.
I'm hoping the file needed can be extracted from the .exe file, if not let me know and I'll upload a backup of the BIOS when I am home later.
Whatever happens thank you for offering this service, normal folk like me would be stuffed without it.
Thanks,
Steve.

then extract both Bioses Files and do an Hex byte by byte compare and if result will be ok You will be surethat files are the same !

Hi, thanks for the super quick reply!!! I may be being a bit stupid or blind here but my Vaio model (SZ71VN) isn't listed in the long list of models there, am I missing something? Anyhow I really appreciate you doing this for me, but I'm not intelligent enough to know what a SLIC BIOS is!! I am able to put a new hard drive in and put a new OS on it but thats about my limit!! So I'm hoping SLIC is good but AHCI is all I need if it saves you time.
Thanks again,
Steve.

Your Bios extracted has name R0122S5.WPH so I used Andy PMTool 2.54 and extracted all modules from your Original Bios and from HH Mod Bios (I compared them using Beyond Compare) and they are the same except the TEMPLAT00.ROM (this is the Setuputility module) which is modded to Unlock Menu Tabs !
So this is your Bios Modded Menu Tabs Unlock, but without Slic 2.1 !

http://www.mediafire.com/?et2x1bfgn6ug7mi

I willtry to add Slic 2.1, but SML6397 is better than me in Phoenix Bios, but I need an RW file look here :

P.S. BusyKid suggest to flash Bios from USB Dos Bootable Stick using this comand
ph161700 /x /FORCE /O /C /S R0122S5.WPH

Hi, thanks for doing this. A problem though, when I go to flash it with Winphlash I get an error saying:

Corrupted interface descriptors in the new BIOS file.
Platform signature not found in the interface.
Error code: -103

Is it something I'm doing wrong??

If it helps I have attached a link to download a back up of my BIOS I tookwith Winphlash here http://www.keepandshare.com/doc2/44613/b...1-meg?da=y

Thanks,
Steve.

Hi again, please ignore my last message. I downloaded a newer version of Winphlash which did not throw up any errors with the new BIOS wph file. I ran it and it installed 100%. I can see everything in the BIOS now, have enabled ahci and my SSD is going at twice the speed, I'm a very happy customer!!
Thanks so much for the trouble you took, its really appreciated :-)
Steve.
