[REQUEST] Lenovo G700 (7ACNxxWW) Whitelist Removal
#21
Hi

I followed your instructions and tried within Windows and DOS. I have not used DOS for years. Brings back old memories!

Both gave the message error 252 : image file bios bin not found

Took a picture.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7UuJBf...sp=sharing

Did I do something wrong?

Also here is a back-up of my Bios. Appears Lenevo do not publish this for some reason Smile Probably scare guys like you will hack it....

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7UuJBf...sp=sharing

Thanks again for helping with this.

You're right as your Modded Bios has name "backnwl.bin" so your comand will be

FPTw -f backnmw.bin -bios

Hi

Looks like Lenevo have really locked this down well....

Can you help again?

Thanks

Try from USB Dos Stick, rename modded bios as "bios.bin" :

1. Prr.exe

2. fpt -f bios.bin -bios

Hi
Renamed the file and I get exactly the same result. Same error again about the protected range... Have Lenovo beaten us? Not sure why this model of laptop is trickier that the rest.

Thanks again for your time and help.

Andy

I dont know if this helps. I rebooted my machine and selected F2 to get into the Bios menu. There is 1 option on there stating 'BIOS Back Flash'
option is Disabled by default. I have changes this to enabled but it did not seem to make any difference Sad

Dont know if it is relevant?

Now I saw anoter Lenovo Laptop Z510 have same issue, It seems as Lenovo and all others manufacturers are going to hard protect bios memory Eeprom !
So what I said to others users buy an SPI External USB Programmer with POMONA Soic Clip and write Bios directly into chips !
I am sorry Sad

Hi

No reason to be sorry I appreciate the time you spent on this. How much is it for an SPI programmer. Is it a complex procedure with the programmer? If they are not too expensive I may purchase one and then it could be used by the forum. Pass it around to help others.

Otherwise looks like the manufactures have won. Why are they going to so much trouble to lock these things down. All is a little bit fishy that they are trying to restrict what is in effect the part of the computer that communicates to the outside world....

Kemod sai to me time ago :

Please be aware on device support list :

EZP2010/EZP2013 support MX25L3205D but doesn't support MX25L3206E

GQ-4X support both MX25L3205D and MX25L3206E

Minipro TL866CS support both MX25L3205D and MX25L3206E

One of the most important difference between those:

- MX25L3205D utilize WP#/ACC on pin #3. To enable erase/write programmer must give +9.5-10.5V to this pin.
- MX25L3206E utilize WP# on pin #3. To enable erase/write programmer must give VCC signal (+3.3V) to this pin.

Macronix MXIC explain this on migration document that using MX25L3205D programmer on MX25L3206E
will DAMAGE the chip (overvoltage on pin #3)
http://www.macronix.com/Lists/TechDoc/At...D_0514.pdf

For your reference on device support list:

EZP2010
http://www.c-u-s.co.uk/files/EZP2010_Dev...t_List.txt

GQ-4X
http://www.mcumall.com/comersus/store/mc...ortICs.asp

Minipro TL866 Series
http://www.autoelectric.cn/minipro/MiniP...rtList.txt

Hint: Look for 'Macronix' or 'MXIC' chips (the one that Lenovo use most)

For cost and futureproof sake, I can recommend you to use the same hardware programmer as mine
(Minipro TL866CS). It's very cheap (I get it @ USD 39) and have very large device support list database.
