[Request] Acer Aspire 5500 Insyde BIOS Nvidia support mod
#1
Hello, can anyone unlock the support for Nvidia cards in the Acer Aspire 5500 Insyde BIOS. The BIOS files are attached.

Officially the BIOS supports only ATI cards, but i have an Nvidia Geforce Go 6600 card from a Toshiba laptop that is phisically compatible with this ACER laptop.

Thanks in advance

Attached Files
.zip   BIOS_v2.90.zip (Size: 776.16 KB / Downloads: 1)

There is a workaround this tested successfully by me, i will explain it here in case somebody else needs this artifice.

The EFL50 (Acer Aspire 5500) is identical to EDL00 (Acer TravelMate 4150), you need to flash the EDL00 bios to the EFL50 platform as follows (i used the crisdisk method but it might work with a dos flash as well):

step 1: download the Acer TravelMate 4150 v2.50 bios from the Acer website.
step 2: on a x86 windows platform, execute the buidrom.bat to create the actual rom files compatible with the various EDL00 configurations.
step 3: on a USB floppy disk drive load the bflashit.bin and nv43dock.rom, then rename the nv43dock.rom to bios.rom
step 4: remove the battery and power of the laptop, plug in the USB floppy disk, press fn+esc and power on the laptop releasing fn+esc
step 5: after the flash process is finished, change your ATI video card with the Nvidia one (LS-2742 from Toshiba M65 works fine) and start your machine normally
