abit ip-35e bios unlock for ahci to work
#71
Hi everybody, i am bunping this thread, after a looong time.
Actually i was using E8400 E0 with my abit ip35 pro mobo flashed with modded ver18 bios.

recently i got a Q9550 E0, so i popped in on my motherboard, but the board gives 87 post error code. After some research i found that Q9550 E0 is not supported (or partially supported). When i leave my system for a few minutes, the motherboard passes the 87 error, and boots into OS. Now everytime i start my system, it takes a while to passes the 87 error code.

Can anyone help me with this? Please assist.
Is there any process to add the micro code of Q9550 E0 cpu, in the motherboard bios?

Hi! I had similar problems with a newer core2 on an IP35 Pro. I just looked up POST code 87 in the manual.. you're getting 8.7. (with dots), right? That would mean "Check CPU core voltage". I think it's the same as I had. There were threads about mainboard revision v1.00 having 8.7. issues with 45nm CPUs on the Abit forums, which are offline. If it's revision v1.00 (there's a white sticker between CPU socket and RAM socket) then you're probably out of luck, I didn't find a solution back then.

If it's v1.01 or so then I don't know more than you. Maybe your power supply is too weak for a quad-core.

Ya mate, my board revision is 1.00, i doubt that i might be because of power as i am using a Corsair VS550W PSU.
Any idea how to fix it, how did you solve yours

well as I said, I couldn't fix it.. so I put in an E2140 (65nm) and used the 45nm Pentium DC E6300 on another IP35 Pro with rev v1.01.

Maybe a higher vCore or modifications to the voltage regulation can help.. Take a look at these:

but if you just want this to work then you're probably out of luck :/

I installed the fix ToxAtec mentions http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976 (Windows 7 on my machine)

Remember to clear the bios after install (I took battery out and pulled the power the lead) and edit as you need.

IP35E (toxatec AHCI bios)
Q9550 @ 3.7Ghz
2 x 4Gb OCZ Reapers (1066Mhz)
Windows 7 64bit

When you reboot you will see the bios display the AHCI message before the IDE one(if you have the Abit logo off).

Then Windows installs the AHCI driver and needs a reboot.

One strange thing, I had to unplug one of my other hard-drives to boot the PC before I could get into the bios.

Now to buy a Samsung or Crucial M4 Smile

Cheers ToxAtec!

HI there,
just wanted to say ahci mod bios flash worked perfectly on my machine! I even used original abit's flash utility in win7 64 bit and it worked like a charm! I have q9550@3.80, win7 64bit, mobo P35-e and crucial m500 with no pciide bad warning as ahci mode is now available.
Great job ToxAtec and thanks again for prolonging the life of my abit board...

Great to hear that, it would be a waste if you had to replace it because of such a silly restriction. It's still a nice system, even in 2014. I wonder why they disabled or had to disable AHCI at Abit.. have fun!

I updated the Intel Option ROM to version 8.5.0.1030 which is probably the latest version that works with this board. [1]
I used cbrom32-1.96 to replace I9MS1017.BIN with ich_8.5.0.1030.BIN from a modded IP35 Pro BIOS. [2]

I have to tell you that this might brick your board, although I don't think it should.
If you test this, please tell everyone if it helped, others might have the same issue.

EDIT: Yeah, I forgot the attachment Big Grin

It definitely works!
I hope my post will help someone who don't know whether to flash the latest version or not.
ToxAtec, I wanna THANK YOU on behalf of all Russian!

A man under "Zero" nickname told here [ http://forums.overclockers.ru/viewtopic....5#p8370715 ] that this BIOS has implicit AHCI switch. If you load default settings AHCI is turned ON. If you enter SATA settings page then AHCI mode is replaced by IDE.

I got IP35 dark rider without -E, but it comes with the same version of BIOS. But here the AHCI mode is enabled on default (IDE/AHCI/RAID).

ToxAtec has release two modded version to fix AHCI issue on IP35-E. But he also updated Intel Option ROM. SSD works fine with AHCI now.

So there is no change after using his modded BIOSes in this case. Unfortunetely I have to set some settings without SATA cables. Because it stops on logo screen.

So nothing happens here Smile
