Heh, that's a cool trick! I'll have to try it sometime, but hopefully on a cheaper board the first time.

I managed to replace my BIOS with one patched by the Rehabman script, but it didn't work. It still refused to accept a different wifi card. A few notes:

I didn't think to update to the new Lenovo BIOS version before I cut out my old flash chip, so I ended up patching the original 7CCN26WW BIOS that I got off the IC after it was off the board (the patcher still ran just fine).

What I did was I unpacked the BIOS file using phoenixtool, then did the patch, then selected the Lenovo SLIC file and clicked Go. That's the correct process, right? I did check the file it produced to make sure it contained the differences specified in Rehabman's post. Oh and is this going to mess up my OEM-installed Windows? I know nothing about SLIC.

For some reason, the BIOS on the IC is 8192 KB (the size of the flash memory), whereas the file from the update is a little larger. So I don't know how I would even flash a patched version of the new BIOS. I could do the update now, remove the chip again, and patch the file I get off of that one. Once we get the patch working - I only have one more of these ICs so we have to make it count!

Ok friend,
two wirds about Bios Mod and Patcher !
All Bioses actualy are Capsulated and Signed (cannot reflash original modded) so to Mod and reflash We need to Decapsulate and then use RecoveryMode to reflash back !
Another way (more easy and used) is Intel FPT tool, We can do a Bios Backup, then modify and then reflash all by the same tool !
FPT can reflash any Bios Region and there are many ME, Bios, Descriptors, GBE, Pbd, but for us important is Bios Region (You can find into Bios as "FWH or PWD etc.) so It will be almost 4096 KB.
About Patcher I am using the Superb CodeRush's Tool UEFIPatcher (now He realized ver.2.0 dedicated to me and mine requests) !
There are possibilities to patch using patterns or offsets etc. so I can please to use It as It's very easy and quick !

Using CodeRush tool looks interesting too as a better way to automate the process.

It might be a good idea to patch the error text as a way to verify the flash was sucessful.

About Flashing Bios I can say that today are only three ways :

1. Recovery Mode (if not disabled from manufacturers FPT error 280)
2. Intel FPT (if not disabled from manufacturers FPT error 280)
3. SPI Programmer

I don't know if You are expert or not, but I am using a Thoshiba A300 with wires cable soldered on
Chip's Pins and I don't desolder anything, program It using MCUMall GQ-4X (have MiniPro TL866CS too),
have Pomona Soic Clip etc. Air Hot Station Solder, etc.
My work favorite me for that ! I have all these tools using everyday.

I completely replaced the chip. Because the only way I have of doing it destroys the original IC (well, still possible to connect to a programmer, but not able to be soldered to the board again). And unless I order more, I only have one left.

Can You explain better what have You done on your MoBo and Bios Chip ?
Normaly there are two chips :

1. Bios Chip Eeprom 32 MBits
2. EC Chip Eeprom 64 MBits

Which ones are yours ? where are fitting on your MoBo ? How You did desold It ?

In different way You can use the ISPC-SPI function of many SPI Programmers, soldering wires cable directly to pin legs chip and preparing an ISP Connector to program directly on-boards chip or if You have a POMONA Soic Clip to do the same !

The W25Q64FVSIQ is the only SOP8 Flash IC i can find on that board. and as far as i understood kylec already read a bios image from it and flashed a patched one.

So next thing to do is as RehabMan suggested to check if PMPatch was successful, because that would mean that the flash was successful and the whitelist patch is just incomplete.

has you laptop You cna use the Intel FPT 8.1 or 9.5 choice the right one for your system, It will shows which ones are you Eeprom Chips for EC and BIOS !
