Dell Studio XPS 1340
#1
Hi, I'm looking to get a modified bios for a Dell Studio XPS 1340...with the aim to have all extra options unlocked and enhanced CPU compatibility. I intend to install a Core 2 Quad Q9100 CPU.

I realise it's an old machine, and looking around the forum it would seem there is already such a bios for the XPS 1640...which was the larger screen version of this machine. It's located here :-

http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-De...o-XPS-1640

I've already managed to get the original latest bios for the 1340, and I've ran the phoenix SLIC mod tool and installed the new bios which worked...but it didn't open any other options. Here's where I should have googled what SLIC as first, but seeing as everyone was talking about it I figured it was the mod to enable all extra options.

The Dell 1340 and 1640 are pretty much the same machines inside, I'm wondering if this modded bios would just work...but don't really want to test it. I've opened up the modded bios for the 1640 and compared to my 1340 bios in phoenix editor pro and can see all the extra options that mine doesn't have under the setup table. I wasn't sure if just transplanting the ROM file for this would work, something else I don't want to risk because I have no idea what I'm doing.

I can't seem to find guides / tools for just enabling hidden options, they all seem to go towards enabling SLIC which I really don't care about.

I have uploaded both the original ROM file and the SLIC enabled ROM file in teh following zip :-

http://svr1.16o.com/1340_A15.zip

I've been able to open and modify this so easily with the tools I have, that I'm sure this would be very simple for someone to modify who knows what they're doing Smile

Because my request pertains to both having the advanced options, so I can modify cpu throttling, and I also want to get a CPU upgrade...should I also post this in the CPU upgrades requests? I'd like to get them both done so let me know Smile

Thanks in advance for the help.

Anyone tell me if I've got a hope or prayer getting this? Doesn't matter if it takes a long time, just wanna know if it's worth clinging onto this laptop / trying to upgrade or just buy a new one lol.

Let me know, thanks.

You can open this bios by Phoenix bios editor ,and you can search string for bios ,you will know there are no special string for bios option ,so it no extra option to unlock i think.
Original option was enough.

I DEFINITELY WOULD!!!

I am looking for a BIOS modification for the XPS 1340 that would allow me to run my RAM at a slower speed. Is this possible at all?

wondering what "memory down Shift Mode Control" is, and if the "memory frequency - auto" option underneath it may solve my current problem. Any insight, Genius 239? I am planning to install RAM that runs too fast for this motherboard and would like to downclock it sufficiently to get Windows 7 to boot without freaking out. At the moment 2x2GB 1066 RAM isn't cutting it, and I want to put 2x4GB 1600 in there, but the board refuses to boot unless I can modify settings in the BIOS, and as you have discovered, options in the BIOS are very limited. The board won't automatically underclock, so I need a manual solution through BIOS.

I don't know if option "memory down Shift Mode Control" or others can solve your question ,as i can't test it.
I only can do is make a mod for you.
Here is my new mod ,on this time i create a new advanced tab and put all of items i unlocked .

This mod was based on #1 bios file.
