AN832X Sil3132 RAID BIOS ROM update.
#1
I have 2 BIOSes I would like to submit to the forum. I have updated Abit BIOS 1.3 for the AN832X with the new Sil3132 BIOS/ROMs.

-1 updated BIOS has the Sil3132 BIOS v7507. This one is the latest BIOS before the Windows 7 support.

-1 updated BIOS has the Sil3132 BIOS v7702. This one is the latest BIOS that has the Windows 7 support.

I used cbrom to release Abit's original Sil3132 ROM (v7218) and then inserted the new ROM from Silicon Image's website. I did the v7507 ROM for myself (since I don't use Win7) which is currently flashed to my BIOS and working fine. Then I did a 2nd BIOS with the v7702 ROM for anyone wanting the Win7 support. I've done this several times before with my Abit NF7-S. So I'm pretty comfortable with the procedure.

You will have to go to Silicon Image's site to download the drivers for the BIOS level you choose to flash your AN832X with.

Obviously, as a new member, I wont attach the files without the permission of the forum MODS. But I would like to submit them for upload or approval.

I hope this is helpful to someone.

Thx Wiz. Glad I can provide these to some folks that might need them. I used cbrom v2.15 to release and install the new Sil3132 BIOS ROM's. I know it's no fancy super-Uber modded BIOS, but it works the way it should.

I suppose I should issue the standard disclaimer. These modded BIOSes are not officially from Abit. They are just BIOSes that I modified to include the new Sil3132 ROM's. But everything else in the BIOS is Abit's standard v1.3 for the AN832X. So the end user will be fully responsible for whatever may happen to their system.

Please be absolutely sure to go to Silicon Image's website and download the latest drivers and SATARAID5 software that they provide that goes along with the appropriate BIOS. Silicon Image is pretty clear about what software & drivers go with which BIOS version. They also provide both SATA RAID and SATA non-RAID drivers. Use what is appropriate for your setup.

Unfortunately Silicon Image does not have release notes for any of their BIOSes (that I could find), so I can not say what they changed.

thx 1234s282.

I've been modding BIOSes & firmware for myself since 2002. Just never had a dedicated forum to share them on. I ended up stumbling across this forum via xtremesystems.com and nforcershq.com. I got in pretty deep with the Abit NF7-S using variants of tic-tac's D Manta Ray BIOS and various Silicon Image ROMs.

And don't even get me started with all the time I've spent @ mkvtech.com hunting down nvidia BIOSes and fiddling around with NiBiTor to customize and tweak my various nvidia hardware. OI VAY!

Anyways. I'm playing around with an Abit AN832S and an ASUS M4A79XTD evo. so anytime I have anything usefull I'll contribute. Big Grin

What other areas of BIOS Modding do you do, and are you a programmer at all?

Sadly I am not a programmer. I just don't have the head for coding.

My BIOS modding is fairly limited in scope. Usually limited to updating BIOSes with new add in ROMs. CPU micro code updates. Sometime enabling extra options in the BIOS that the company did not enable. I'll also make GPU / MEM clk & Voltage changes to nvidia BIOSes then flash them to the card as default timings after testing them out. Or just pull the latest nvidia bios for my GPU's board revision and update the BIOS. Sometimes I make custom EPA and logo screens for my mobo's or silly messages for my VGA bios to display during POST. Sometimes I pull the firmware off my old harddrives and do things like increasing the sector size from 512 bytes to 1024 to increase the drives throughput at the expense of a little total capacity.

Currently I am trying to get into my ASUS M4A79XTD's .rom image. But AMIBCP keeps crashing out when I load the ROM image. Not sure if it's my workstation or the ROM image.

But it's all pretty basic / simple stuff that I do. I could not look at a piece of code and tell you what it does. Sad

I was most interested about your CPU microcode upgrades. Are you just referring to mirocode addition, or actual ability to add support for unrecognized CPUs that dont boot, eg. add AM3 support.

Oh man, I just mean microcode additions. And that was a long time ago that I was doing that stuff. circa Athlon XP 1600+ days. I had a few MSI motherboards that were slow to relase BIOSes. SO we would pull microcode from ABIT and ASUS BIOS roms an inject it into the MSI BIOS roms. But that was just to get the mobo/bios to properly report the type of CPU. The CPU still booted up fine. the system just could not recognize it "officially".

So I am totally out of the loop as far as what is going on now. I just got a my torrent of Borg Number Two's BIOS-Tool-Collection v6 and decided to ease back into modding with a couple ROM updates. Obviously I am rusty if I can't even open up an AMI BIOS rom for my newest mobo.

I really don't think I can be of much help with the more advanced stuff you're talking about. Sorry.
