Thanks. If you don't have the program called CPU-Z on your computer, could you please download it? It's only a few megabytes and doesn't need to be installed.
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/cpu-z/1.70-en.zip
Once you have downloaded it can you please take screenshots of the CPU, Mainboard and Graphics tabs as I have done below
I have bad news and good news.
Bad news: The F.23 bios can not be modded to unlock the advanced menu. Reason being is because it's encrypted.
Good news: You can change settings that are located in the advanced menu with the F.23 bios. You just can't access the advanced menu.
Just recently, I modified a F.23 & F.25 bios, changing advanced menu settings through an EFI. Refer to this link:
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-R...-EFI-shell
Good news: You can downgrade your bios to an older bios that can be modded to unlock the advanced menu. The bios located in your HP_TOOLS partition can be modded to do so. You can downgrade to that bios by repeatedly pressing esc as you turn your laptop on. A menu will prompt. Press the F2 button (system diagnostic). You will then be presented with another menu. You need to access the firmware/bios management option. From there you will be able to restore the bios located on your HP_TOOLS partition.

Alrighty, with that information, I may be able to flash your bios located in your HP_TOOLS partition on my laptop without bricking it. If I can, I'll attempt to mod the bios.
With that said, as I mentioned earlier, you can still enable options listed in the advanced menu with the F.23 bios, you just can't access the advanced menu. If you want to go down this route, I can assist you. I uploaded a document that contains all the options in the advanced menu that can be changed. If you let me know what you want changed I can advise you how to.

Not sure why you think that unlocking the advanced menu will help you with your issue. I installed windows 8 using an unmodified F.23 bios without issue. Sounds like it's either an issue with your windows 8 iso image or your bios settings. I will take a photo of my bios settings, check to see if they match your settings.

Okay to enable AHCI follow these steps:
1. Acquire a USB stick
2. Format the USB stick to FAT32
3. In the USB root create a folder named EFI
4. Within the EFI folder create a folder named BOOT
Note: So you should have created the following directory: EFI\BOOT
Refer to this image if you're confused: http://i.imgur.com/qvNKVLZ.png
5. Download this and paste it into the BOOT folder
https://www.sendspace.com/file/bq49sr
6. Enter your bios and change the following values:
Legacy Support: Disable
Secure Boot: Disable
7. Reboot and press F9 to boot from your USB stick
Note: You should be presented with a screen that says "Welcome to GRUB!". If your screen is blank (just black) change Legacy Support to Enabled. Boot from USB again.
8. Enter the following values:
setup_var 0x36 0x01
setup_var 0x39 0x01
Note: If you entered a command correctly, your screen should look like this: http://i.imgur.com/ckfM49h.jpg
9. Reboot
