fan nois after upating bios - cmos checksum bad
#1
Dear

Can someone help?

It's a packard bell pc, Packard bell imedia S1710 ( PN: iMedia (PT.U22-PV.U22) )

There were several BSOD's after installing windows 7 64bit (original OS was windows vista). a wif usb stick is been used. Most BSOD's were related to the wifi. Bought a new wifi usb stick, worked for a while, then again bsod's, and again the cause was the wifi stick.

First the BSOD's only came at startup , then the pc worked fine, now, after the update the pc shuts off while working.

So I uninstalled most drivers, and also uninstalled them manually through device manager (show hidden devices after entering a command in cmd) (video, wifi).

Then I installed the latest drivers I have found on the packard bell website, and the tp link website (for the wifi stick).

Now pc shuts off more often, and is diffucult to boot up the pc, . the first time after drivers were updated, there was no problem, but the second day the pc is used, pc shuts off, and mostly doesn't even gets to the windows.

So I disable automatic startup.

For the first time I see this BSOD: ***stop: 0x000000A5 (0x0000000000001000A, 0x0, 0x0,0 (not other information).

After googling, I tried the option (F8 , using video 860x ... standard video driver ) , The system then bootup up normally.
The BSOD has to do with windows 7 not compatible with the bios ( date and version 21-04-2009, p01-A0 , I updated the bios (also from packard bell) from windows using AFUWIN which was included with the download to 06-06-2009, P01-A3 .

Pc boots up , stops at a black screen with text and at the end the following:
cmos checksum bad, press del to enter setup or F1 .... . After pressing F1 the pc boots up normally.

But the fan is very noisy. If i go to the bios ssettings, I can change whatever I want, but the settings doesn't get saved. the fan option is enabled, so you would think that the fan will make no noise.

What can I do to have a normal fan noise?

This is I already tried:

took out cmos battery ,tried jumper clear cmos , although I didn't know how, as I don't find any userguide explaining this, but the the result was there: the date was resetted so I went to bios setup and changed the date and hour. This is been saved, but still the same problem: cmos checksum bad, and fan still noisy.

Help?

try replacing the cmos battery with a fresh one first and a run of memtest (just to be sure) if memory test out fine then maybe you could try reflashing the bios via another computer since the pc is unstable as it is for it to do that on its own.

Hi mikemike097,

I already solved the problem.

I bought a new cmos battery and placed it and repeated the bios update from windows as I couldnt boot with usb, cd of sdcard to do the update from dos level.

But this time i did not used the flash tool (afuwin) but used the bats file. I had tried it before but a screen showed and closed very fast ( cms screen?). So i tried right click ( open with administrator) but same thig happen.

Then i opened cmd( administrator) first , then typed the file bats.

This time the window was showing on screen and was doing the steps.

When of the last steps is to destroy cmd ...

I assume that the afuwin did not did the same thing.

Now everything works, no error and coolernoise is normal.

Anyway, thank for you effort.

I hope my text is clear for anyone else who has the same problem I had. Otherwise feel free to ask.
