I can desolder the BIOS chip from the board if need be, but I'm going to attempt using the clip first anyway. As a rule, I always try the minimally invasive approach before jumping right to the nuclear option. Desoldering and resoldering surface mount electronics from motherboards isn't impossible, but it is kind of a pain and the risk of damaging things is unnecessarily high. I avoid it whenever possible. but in certain cases like repairing motherboards with blown capacitors, it is necessary.

Ok friend,
that's right and I agree with You !

how should I go about doing a full dump of my EEPROM? I tried Intel FPT and it creates a 7 MB file which I'm assuming is both the BIOS and the ECP chips. Am I just going to do two individual dumps using the TL866? I still haven't received my SOIC adapter cable so I'm probably just going to proceed by soldering wires to the legs on the chips and plugging them directly into the programmer.

after I make the backups, just to clarify, is it safe to flash the non-whitelisted BIOS you sent me, or is there more information I need (like offset memory address, etc) prior to flashing?

ugh... this has turned into a total disaster. My SOIC adapter cable finally arrived today so I tried to use it. I kept on getting the overcurrent protection warning others have mentioned. I tried the workaround of plugging the power cable in to the laptop without turning the computer on and it seemed like it was going to work. It actually ID'd the chip and started reading it, but failed about ten seconds into it. after that I was unable to get it to recognize the chip. so I resorted to removing the BIOS chip from the board, and I think I had my soldering iron too hot because I destroyed one of the copper foil solder pads in the process of removing the BIOS chip. So, I have destroyed my motherboard and need to buy a new one now.
since the damage was already done, I figured I'd give programming the BIOS chip a shot anyway. I soldered the chip directly to the adapter board as per the diagram (making sure that the dotted pin was in the correct position) and the programmer STILL won't read the BIOS chip. I think I'm just going to strip the CPU, Ram and hard drive from this laptop and sell it as-is/for parts.

Request Details
Laptop:
Lenovo x230 (non-tablet)

BIOS Version:
G2ETA2WW (2.62)

BIOS Download link:
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/...uj19us.exe

BIOS backups:
results.rar (obtained with BACKUP_Tools.exe): https://www.sendspace.com/file/95z86g
LENOVO-G2ETA2WW(2.62).rom (obtained with Universal BIOS Backup Toolkit v2.0): https://www.sendspace.com/file/h0c2t8

BIOS chips:
MX25L3206E and MX25L6406E
note: they are reported as MX25L3205D and MX25L6405D by spiinfo in FtK8.0.11.1, but this is incorrect.

Current WiFi Adapter:
Model: Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300 AGN
PCI ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4238&SUBSYS_11118086&REV_3E

New WiFi Adapter to be installed:
Model: Intel 7260 802.11ac Bluetooth 4.0 Dual Band 7260HMW

Tools to be used:
GQ-4 SPI Programmer:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/260819856441

Generic SOIC-8 adapter/clip:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/141377097279

If I am not able to flash the modified BIOS using the generic SOIC-8 clip, I will try the higher quality TOOL-012A adapter and Pamona 5250 SOIC8 clip:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/271632344505

If that still does not work, I will resort to desoldering the chip from the motherboard as kenmod did in the following thread:

HelloWorldCoder, I believe you may have mistakenly posted in the wrong thread. If you downloaded the files linked above, they will not work for you.

Thanks BDMaster and HelloWorldCoder! You guys are way ahead of me here. I am trying to understand this process.

I see the following change made:
In 79E0EDD7-9D1D-4F41-AE1A-F896169E5216_2208 at offset 00000C30:
FF 41 3B C5 74 05 83 F8 05 75 19 41 0F B7 4C 10
changed to
FF 41 3B C5 74 05 83 F8 05 75 00 41 0F B7 4C 10

In BIOS2205 at offset 00000c30:
15 3F F6 FF FF 41 3B C5 74 05 83 F8 05 75 19 41
changed to
15 3F F6 FF FF 41 3B C5 74 05 83 F8 05 75 00 41

I may be missing some other changes. Is there any way you can explain how these changes are made so I can better understand the process?

I have read the following post, but I still don't understand how you guys are removing the Lenovo whitelists.
http://donovan6000.blogspot.com/2013/06/...lists.html

Also, in order to make the final changes, I will need to retrieve the full dump with the SPI programmer right?
