Admin locked BIOS
#1
Hi All,

I recently joint this forum and have a question if someone is helpfull I would appreciate it..
I own a HP Probook 450 G0, and lost my BIOS admin password.
Now I'm trying to look for a sollution, but can't seem to find one.
Due to security reasons I had to disable USB booting, because I used to use my laptop
as a "Bring Your Own Device". But I started a new job and don't need this security anymore so want to disable it together with enabling Wi-Fi and the webcam I all had to disable.

Can someone help me out with this issue ??
I already contacted HP but the bin file they provided is useless due to non bootable USB options.

Type : HP Probook 450 G0

Changing the motherboard is the only option since notebook comes with a tpm 1.1 layer module, hence password is encrypted through a synergistic process and saved with the hardware id in tpm.

Hi kartikey.chaturvedi,

Thank you for your answer, a little update from my side.
I managed to update the BIOS in the meantime to version F.50 and most of my hardware is available.
The only issue I'm still experiencing is that the password is still set, and what happend after the upgrade.
Is that I lost my serial, UUID and other info. (see attachment)
Even after several attempts from HP a smc.bin file did not help..
I'm wondering if it needs the motherboard replaced because I understood from other people with the same type probook that they didn't have this problem.
Shouldn't there passwords be encrypted in the same way you spoke ealier ?

kind regards,
hhafidi

hhafidi, I have tool for updating system information it is called as m/b DMI tool, I have the version which is being used by HP in factory, however i haven't tested it so far on locked bios with tpm.
In the old laptops there was a method to bypass the tpm by either removing it or using the switch. If the tpm is embedded on board then there is no option rather than changing m/b.
I am sorry that i can't help you much till 17th January as I will be on a field work. away from society for a while Tongue.
Still, lets see what can be done.

Hi BDAdmin,

thanks for the links but I tried these metthods already without succes unfortunatly  Confused
Even Mazzif couldn't say if it would work since he didn't had any examples at the time I spoke to him on this issue.

I will keep trying to find a sollution, I can't imagine that different methods work on the same type and other laptops.
But not on mine...

A different Method is to reflash Bios using a Virgin Bios
by HW SPI Programmer (as These Bioses are RSA Signed), look here :

Hi BDMaster,

I was out for a while so I couldn't answer your reply. I will tak a look into your suggestion.
Hope it works. I did manage to update my bios to the latest version. Somehow I bypasses the bios passw after a (windowskey + B)
And with no issue got the newest version.
The only thing is that after the update all my system info was deleted. So no serial,UUID etcetra.
And updating it with a tool from HP doesn't work because It gives an error, guess due to the passw still remaining.

I'll ket you know what the result is after reading the link and applying the steps.

get back to you.

thanks in advance for your time and effort..

kind regards,
hhafidi

To unlock MPM on 2012 and newer notebooks with UUID FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF:
----------------
If MPM is locked, the user can unlock MPM as below:

Rename the file to the FSMC.bin in wndmifit to SMC.bin
Save the file to FAT32 USB key and insert to the system (or save the file to the root of drive D: HP_TOOLS)
Press "Windows Key + UP Key + Down Key" and turn on the system

-----------------------
This is from a tool nbdmifit 2.04, i renamed FSMC.bin to SMC.bin and attached to this post. see if it works.
