#21
Well, it did the same thing...and it booted.

I'm not gonna lie

I'm extremely surprised that PC booted with that old CPU. I have removed the old microcode so why it still boots with the old processor is beyond me.

There's one final thing you can try

It is possible that the old microcode is still stored in CMOS. Could you please remove the button cell battery from the motherboard for 5 minutes, reinstall then boot? If it still boots with old CPU then there's some Illuminati s**t going on with your computer.

Please report back

Thanks

Hahahhaha! That's funny. Yeah. I'll try the reboot/unplug method (and remove battery/reset bios).

There's no logical explanation for that old CPU still working aha!

I shut down. removed the battery, moved the CMOS jumper and waited. Initially it beeped and didn't want to start. Therefore, I put the 3770k in and it refused to boot, beeped four times and gave the orange light.

I re-installed the G630 and it works again. While looking for the CMOS jumper, I did see a "flash overwrite" jumper. would that somehow cause the "PDR region does not exist" error?

Your help is greatly appreciated and I wish I were of more assistance! BIOS mods are new to me...

PDR region does not exist is normal, but try that flash override jumper. Reset CMOS again but this time boot with the 3770k first and not the G630. I'm sorry this is a pain but I am as curious as you on how this isn't working.

Thanks

I may have found the issue.

The Clear CMOS jumper is typically located near the battery. In my attempt to reset the CMOS, I may have accidentally reset the BIOS to the default Dell by moving the "flash overwrite" jumper instead. The Clear CMOS jumper is actually near the CPU. I will flash and reattempt.

Hopefully that solves this mystery!

Oh I see, boot with 3700k once CMOS is reset. That should bump start it

Interruptions...I'll try again now.
