[REQUEST] Lenovo G580 (62CNxxWW) Whitelist removal
Hello,

I bought myself a new WAN card for my Lenovo G580, the original one had issues with Win 8.1 64 bit, it keeps giving "Limited service" bought a new Intel card that is also supposed to give me Bluetooth capability, imagine my surprise when i slotted it in and got a message that (i looked up on search engines and) means that BIOS does not support it.

My current BIOS is here
https://www.sendspace.com/file/ktbxic

Could I please get a whitelisting to enable me to use my new WLAN card?

Also... read a few other posts and archives... I cannot boot my laptop in DOS mode... I have GRUB with Ubuntu/Win8.1 dual boot set up but now i can neither enter BIOS (with F2 at startup prompt) nor do I know how to access MS-DOS mode. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

How You get this issue ?

P.S. your Eeprom is Write Protect Error 28 so only from Dos !

Thank you for your response. I already tried to flash the latest BIOS version from the Lenovo support site and I managed to get into BIOS then. But then I installed the above mentioned OSes and now I see that the problem is back. I will attempt to reflash the BIOS from the Lenovo site, (http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobi...7ww_64.exe), perhaps that will gain me access to BIOS at startup screen with F2 key shortcut (but likely not to MS-DOS). I will have to find another way for that.

Should I repost the version BIOS as saved from the tools you recommend after reflashing so I can get the whitelisting?

Thanks in advance!

UPDATE:

Tried to reflash BIOS from that link (latest version available on the Lenovo website), it fails because it's the same version. Re backed my current BIOS version to

https://www.sendspace.com/file/emj1he

Can I please get the whitelisting on this version? Perhaps reflashing that version will also re-grant me BIOS access (no idea yet on how to access MS-DOS mode but will find something)

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Thanks so much for taking the time to do the mod.

After some searching, found how to get into BIOS on the G580. All i need to do is flush the power from my laptop (take battery out and keep the power button pressed for 5 secs). Then when I startup (only the first time after power flush) i can enter BIOS or access boot menu. I accessed the boot menu to boot off a flash drive formatted with Rufus to have MS-DOS startup. I reckoned that would be enough to get me in MS-DOS, and indeed it seemed to, I have the FreeDOS command prompt when i boot off the USB drive. But running flash.bat from a copied folder of the version you sent over gives an error ala

"Error 28: Protected Range Registers are currently set by BIOS, preventing flash access. Please contact the target system BIOS vendor for an option to disable Protected Range Registers."

Any way on how to bypass this?

Thanks

We can only try to flash back Original 5ECN96WW version and hope that Error 28
will go away as many times flashing older version downgrading Eeprom Chip return
unprotect !
Here You go for orignal version :

http://rghost.net/6dZ87MhnD

Then after reflash It redo result file and upload here for me I will reply with Bios Mod !

Hi,

Thank you for the short notice answer. I am trying to use the provided installer to flash the BIOS.

Wow... Really this is starting to no longer make sense... The time, the nerves and spend 30 more euros on accesories to install a 15 euro wifi card... Thanks to Lenovo and their device blacklisted BIOS...

Thank you for your time here but I think I'm done with this.
