Xeon E5405 support for ASUS P5N-E SLI
#11

Linked BIOS do not contain required Xeon microcode.
Because P5N-E SLI has 512Kbyte BIOS file, with many microcode there is not enough place for 771 Xeon's microcode.
You must delete some old CPU microcode (P4 etc)
Information: here
Xeon 771 and 775 core duo and up microcode

I modified BIOS with linked microcode, I will test it and if it works I will put here.

Are you sure??Do you have check it??

My post bios file was aleady modified microcode for 771 stepping c0、e0、g0,just i added micor code was date 2008 at head ,your modification is date 2010 and you have upgrade other 775 micro code to date 2010 and you sort them.
I have checked it.

My principle is if original micro code is date 2008 i will modify or inject  it  for date 2008 micro code  with server flatform(771),i don't blindly inject latest micro code into any bios, just like newer g41 mainboard ,it contain date 2010 micro code for desktop flatform(775),i will inject  date 2010 micro code.

Ok , your modification works also
I put SLIC info also to BIOS

.zip   1406XEONSLIC.zip.zip (Size: 430.41 KB / Downloads: 136)

.zip   1406Xeon.zip.zip (Size: 428.11 KB / Downloads: 170)

I tested my modified BIOS, and SLIC works well.
I will test xeon E5320 later in this week. ( I tested L5420 earlier)

Hi All, I know this is a bit old but I have one of these motherboards and wondered what the fastest/best Xeon Exxxx chip would run in this motherboard please?

Hi, sorry that I replay too late but is better than nothing Smile

So the Xeon work without bios mod but in check it say that I need to upgrade bios "to unleash the full power of this processor". So when I add this bios, this message disappear. All instruction are ok.

My problem with this combination is that I cannot overclock it. The processor is stable at stock speed (2.83 GHz) but any MHz more make it unstable. At 2.95 GHz windows crash on boot. Maybe the problem is in my pure skills in OC...

Edit: I will try your bios with Slic too.

Hello All,

If I use the bios of the second post, can I continue to use my Core 2 duo E6750 ?

I don't know if the microcode of my actual CPU is always in the modified bios...

After I will install an Xeon E5450.

Thanks

Hello, Ive got a big problem.

Today i got my ASUS P5N-E SLI that came preshipped with an q6600 and 4GB Ram.
Ive ordered a Xeon x5460 and an Modsticker.
Now i wanted to update the Motherboard to the modded bios (i used the one from kenand )
Then i updated the Bios to the Modded one and restarted. Now i always got a Blackscreen with the Q6600 and after a few minutes an continous beep.
Ive tested another LGA775 CPU but i always get an Blackscreen.
Is this normal because it was the xeon version of the Bios but they should have the Microcodes for the older CPUs alswell.

Thanks for your Replays Smile
