[Request] Unlock menus for Lenovo Y40-80
#1
Hi all:

Can you please unlock my bios? I've just noticed it can be unlocked cause after updating to the new version when I went there I manage to see a couple of new menus with a lot of options I've exited and they disapear, now I just have th normal tabs. Will the update be the same way the official one is, via exe? IS there any options that can brick my laptop? Sorry for all the questions.

Error 280: Failed to disable write protection for the BIOS space!

You can only to hope on Sleep Bug, otherise You need an SPI Programmer
to rewrite your Bios Mod back !
So try this procedure and if You get error again try to Downgrade and make the
test again . . .

Put the laptop into Sleep Mode and then Wake-Up It then do theresult file again
anc check about error !
Let me know
Regards

P.S. look for Vodek procedure !

I've done the Sleep Mode trick as you told but the same error appears, just went to windows, close the laptop and it went to sleep mode, opened the laptop and runed the program, same error. Is there anything I could try? Where can I look for the Vodek procedure?

One other question, can't the file from Lenovo website be used? I've extracted the exe and a *.rom file is inside, cant that be used? After updating from that file I went to bios and notice the advanced options were there but after exited I could no longer see them, is that a bug?

Thank you all!

May be is a bug as normaly Advanced Tab is hidden !
You can try to Downgrade and look for Sleep Bug again . . .
Otherwise You have to get an HW SPI Programmer and a Pomona Soic Clip !

I also own a Y40-80, and can confirm that the universal bios backup tool is able to save a copy of the bios. Make sure you're running it as admin, and also I dumped mine right after taking it out of sleep mode, although I don't know if that mattered.

I'm unable to help further as mine is bricked from a failed flash when updating to a new bios, so I'm unable to update to the latest to dump it.

Any info on trying to recover it would be appreciated. Fn + R appears to be the keys to hold when plugging it in, as fans go full blast and I get a quick blink on flash drive about every 10 seconds. The most recent version of Andy's tool this site hosts does not give a recovery filename when opening the bios from the update nor the backup I dumped before attempting to update. No filenames I've tried have worked at all.
