SLIC 2.1 Request MSI Z170 Gaming 5
#1
-Manufacturer: MSI
-Motherboard Model: Z170A GAMING M5
-Bios version: 1.4
-Bios Type: AMI BIOS
-Bios Website: http://gaming.msi.com/products/motherboa...ing-series
-Bios Download Link: http://download.msi.com/bos_exe/7977v14.zip
-RW Everything Report : http://www.megafileupload.com/9jx0/AcpiTbls.rw

Hello, I am under the assumption if my bios supports the SLIC 2.1 stuff. I would be able to use my locked Windows 7 OEM key. Is that the purpose for modifying the bios? Or am I in the wrong general direction here? Also am not sure if i am in the correct forum. I am Still a noob Smile.

~Thanks for the help in advance.

Hello. I will state it again that i am a rookie at this. I may have made a rookie mistake, i may just not know exactly what i am doing. However i flashed the bios with this moddified bios and i now have:

EFI Specification Revision: 2.40
EFI Vendor: American Megatrends
EFI Revision: 5.11

This is what loads on the screen after I power on the machine: http://postimg.org/image/4v5cvezln/

I have no clue how to use this. I am stuck inside the shell. I am able to run commands it seems, not all of them. I am not sure what I did by flashing this. Could anyone out there please help me fix my mistake?

I would like to revert back to my old BIOS or figure out how to get this one to boot my windows 7..

Thank you very much..

There are many ways to Recover your Bios . . . I haven't most experience on MSI and
I haven't read your MoBo Specifications but I think It's a DUAL Bios so You can switch
on second Eeprom Chip and start again then switch your MoBo on Corrupted Bios and
Flash again the Original Bios to correct It !

http://www.msi.com/files/pdf/How_to_flash_the_BIOS.doc

Anoher way can be using an USB Formatted FAT32 and copying into the Original Bios file
then putting into the USB Port and switch on the pc !
Let me know
Regards

P.S. Write a PM to Sovem too !

I am not sure how to even enter the bios anymore. ive tried exiting the shell promt and hitting buttons. with a windows 7 installation disk in it starts to run that. But no other button before the shell exist will open my bios nor will after exiting the shell prompt.

- Restart the computer.
- Press the "Delete" key while the system is booting up to enter the BIOS.
There is normally a message similar to "Press Del to enter SETUP," but it can flash by quickly.
On rare occasions, "F2" may be the BIOS key.
- Load default.
- Save & Exit
