Thinkpad x230 laptop BIOS recovery
#1
Sad
I have a Thinkpad x230 laptop and updated the bios through the lenovo tools. After the bios flash the computer would not boot. When pressing the power button the power light turns on and the camera light flashes. Nothing else. No sounds. I have been trying various permutations of the WINCRISIS tool using a USB stick. I have tried both FN-B and WIN-B keys while pressing the power button. The USB drives light flashes once when the power button is pushed, but nothing else. Under some conditions I get the laptop to beep 8 times (pressing two keys for a while as the power is pressed with no battery).

Is there anyone with experience recovering the bios on an x230? Any advice? This expensive laptop, one month off guarentee, is now a brick.

Thanks for any help!

Hello!

I am experiencing same problem with my Thinkpad x230-2325-AC7.
Did you solve your problem?
I want to do HW flashing of MX25L6406E and MX25L3206E chips. One is 8MB and other 4MB. I think it might work.
I would be grateful if someone send me files that should be downloaded in MX chips.

Hi everyone!

My Thinkpad x230-2325-AC7 is dead after bios upgrade from v2.02 to new v2.61.
Upgrade was done from Windows. Now, after I push power button, some LEDs just blink so as little light besides camera and fan stop spinning soon after that. Power button LED stays on.
I tried removing CMOS battery procedure.

I assume that only way is to do hardware flashing of both MX25L6406E and MX25L3206E chips. The problem is that I don't have original backup.
Can somebody send me original content of these chips?

Greetings!

Ok friend,
I hope You can desold the chips, so if You have got all tools You can read these memories and We can compare with original which are into Original Bios !
I know that EC Bios isn't (as It is in a packed form) so try to read and backup your chips and upload them here, then I will check both and reply about.
I think your Bios is corrupt and We have to recover only this one !
Let me know
Regards

Hi!

I already read that article several times, but unfortunately I don't own Eprom programmator. Of course, I will ask someone who has for favour.
Then I will let you know.

Thank you!

Hello, again!

I took my laptop to service and guy tried to upload something to MX25L6406E chip. Probably *.fl1 file downloaded from lenovo site, I'm not sure because I wasn't present. He didn't make backup of it. Laptop was returned to me with: "My condolences.".
Now I'm trying with the other guy to make it work.

Is it even possible to use backup of bios chips (4MB and 8MB) from another x230 of same type, or is it crucial to have some information from my x230? I think that we could read MX25L3206E, it should be intact. But is it good enough?

.bin   fd.BIN (Size: 4 MB / Downloads: 38) OK,

this is content of MX25L3206E. As I mentioned before content of MX25L6406E was ruined by first guy in service, who probably tried to write something, and ended without success. That chip was desoldered, and MX25L3206E was not. I hope somebody can help me. I don't even want bios without white list, I just need something to make my x230 work again.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
