Used this to do BIOS update via freeDos.
looked like BIOS was flashed OK.
During reboot, there was message, maybe checksum error?
Seemed liked it ask to load defaults so I said yes.
= bricked!!!
2-8-1 beep code no monitor.
tried AMI BIOS auto recovery via USB stick all ports using AMIBIOS.ROM and orig BIOS filenames and FAT16 and no luck.
going out to buy external floppy, hope it works.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Don't want to resort to replace chip as last resort.
Was also looking at SPI programming but can't figure out where to connect.
TIA

Aww Im really sorry about your board mate , ive just double checked the mod and it all looks ok so it was probably a bad flash.

Seeing as you have already tried the AMIBOOT.ROM via USB Stick , please try using a CD or , even better , a floppy as some users have reported problems when attempting recovery with a usb stick

If all else does fail and you have to replace your chip , if you order off [url]www.biosman.com[/ur] and put "Biosmods.com" in the additional information box when ordering , you will receive a discount!

Hope it works out for you and your board!

Kindest Regards

I flashed successfull but an abnormal increased heat build-up in the components was a nasty side effect .(right front side near bios chip)

So i flashed back and all is fine.

What i'm trying to say is, be carefull and monitor your board while toying around.

I've seen the new features and there are a lot of them.
And maybe somewhere you can set voltages for core and memory.
I do know that by default these are not correct!!

Best to go with the following theory now mate :-

This is an OEM system , those options were hidden for a reason and the computer ewas designed NOT to be overclocked. The second you try overclocking therefore ,the components heat up extremely easily.

If you want to overclock , invest in a new CPU cooler , re attach the thermal compound betwen the heatsink and CPU (Using Arctic Silver 5 ) and throw in a few high speed fans first!

Well i tried the flash today, what a disaster.
Bricked the mb as Revant had stated. All I had was fans running at such a high speed I thought they would burn up. There was no screen and a bios beep code of 2-8-1.
Tried all sorts of ways to recover and no luck, lucky for me I had also bought one of the same computers for the lovely CoolHeart wife. Wink
So I tried to hot flash the bios with the original bios setup from Acer. It all worked out eventually. So I asume there is a problem with this bios update.
Please be carefull when trying this.
Thanks and regards
Gavo Cool
