selecting XMP profile in Asus X401A bricked the laptop!
#1
Hello, I have an asus F301A with x401a motherboard. I unlocked the bios to show memory settings as I have a Kingston ddr3 impact module with XMP capabilities. I flashed the unlocked bios and was able to enter it and see the new chipset menu. So I went into memory settings and selected "XMP profile 1", saved changes and exited bios. Result: laptop is dead, it won't turn on. The leds light for 2 seconds then turn off. The fan won't spin.
I tried to reset cmos by removing the bios battery, shorting the battery connector pins, removing battery and power and pressing power button for 45 seconds, many times. I also removed the memory module and inserted the original one. Nothing worked.
Pc is dead. How is it possible? The bios was flashed without any problem, this XMP profile ruined everything! I don't know what I can do.
There's a jdebug1 port on the motherboard, I was thinking maybe I could setup a jtag cable and flash the bios again but that won't remove the cmos settings anywayand I don't know the pinout for this jdebug port. Any idea?

the pc has hm76 intel chipset and i7-2670qm cpu

Yes ! many laptops are Bricked as changing settings It did produce an Inconsistent Data
into VarStore and as CMOS is emulated into Eeprom Bios ROM It's not possible to erase !
Only an HW SPI Programmer can rewrite you Bios and repair It !
Let me know
Regards

!! The flasher found a W25Q64BV Chip however I couldn't locate it on the motherboard. Also I don't understand. If i buy the spi programmer and the wiring adapter and reflash the bios will it also erase the cmos?

edit---

I found the chip on board, it's a Winbond 25Q64FVSIG, it's a tiny chip, it seems like 5 or 6 mm square. Is it a sop8 or dip8? I bought the clamp as in the next post but now I'm wondering if it will work.

Hello BDMaster, I bought these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291341597770 (the wiring clamp)

And

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301473190833 (ezp2010 programmer)

Are they correct? I think yes.
