Salutations guyz!
As you might hint from the title, I own an Asus G50VT laptop from 2010 that still runs very nicely. Now from Asus' specs on this specific model (http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks...fications/ ), it states the maximum Ram is 4GB. However, looking up the chipset of my laptop on Intel's website, the specs clearly state the maximum RAM supported by this chipset & memory controller is 8GB.
My chipset is the Mobile IntelĀ® PM45 Express Chipset +ICH9M with the 82PM45 Memory Controller Hub. Intel's specs page of the chipset: http://ark.intel.com/products/35135?wapkw=pm45
I was able to procure a 4GB DDR2-800 So-dimm Ram stick. I installed it both alone and paired with a 2GB stick I already own, but the laptop turns on with a black screen in both instances. No BIOS logo or anything showing the POST process. Reinserting both my 2GB sticks was able to turn it back on without any hiccups. Maybe Asus limited the max memory to 4GB on the BIOS? Who knows.
So my big question is, if this BIOS is fully unlocked would it be able to read beyond 4GB? And if so, could somebody have a modded BIOS ready for me to download?
I know this is an older laptop, but it's one I'm stuck with for the foreseeable future. And also, all I care about is whether the BIOS for this notebook being unlocked will get it to read 8GB of RAM with no problem, though I won't mind checking out what other options the unlocked BIOS offers!
It's an AMI BIOS ver. 0213 (latest from May 2009)

Thanks!
