Memory unlock/remap for 945GM chipset
#1
Hi!

I wanted to use 4GB of RAM on old laptop witch 945GM chipset. Only ~3GB are detected in BIOS.There are many topics regarding this subject and I understand it is TOLUD register problem (BIOS sees 3GB instead of 4GB becouse everything above 3GB is reserved for other stuff like PCI, etc.).

I know there was successful attepts to resolve this issue on other ROM's. I just would like to someone who knows the problem to check out this:
BIOS A6FAS.222 and tell me is it possible or worth the trouble with this one. This is Asus A6F with 2x2GB of RAM and now BIOS sees only 3GB (2.75 to be exact). Only CPU-Z see 4GB, BIOS and Operating Systems (also 64bits) don't.

Post screenshots of Mainboard & Memory of CPU-Z.
Open Device Manager, click View at the top of the Device Manager window, click Resources by type, and then select Memory. This should give you an output similar to the picture shown below

Resize such window to show all information. Make and post a screenshot of it.

OK. I need new screenshot "Memory from Device Manager" with one SODIMM only.

How many memory BIOS recognize with one SODIMM only?

With one 2GB RAM BIOS reports 2040MB (with 2x2GB it was exactly 2936).

Heres the screenshot with one 2GB RAM inside:

Your laptop is based 945GM chipset with 32bit's PAE. So it can't address memory above 4GB.
In your laptop memory above 0xD0000000 address is used by internal devices and 8 MB is used for internal graphics.
Theoretical BIOS patch can increase available size of memory from 2936 to 3320 MB (maximum).
Are you interested in that?

Yes, I'm interested. I'm running multiple VM's on it so even that slight increase would help.

OK. Install 2x2GB. Make & attach TXT-report of CPU-Z.

Try to flash my mod with one SODIMM.
Then add second SODIMM.
Describe results.
