Hi, I have a HP Pavilion DV6 6165tx and recently some of the keyboard keys have stopped working, including the f10 key which is needed to enter and save changes to the BIOS. Since it no longer works I am unable to enter BIOS. I want to turn on virtualization for my Intel 3000 HD card (since the AMD one is busted). Can it be done so that I enter the BIOS and save changes by the f12 key or the delete key, whichever is easier? I need it to run a virtual machine. The current BIOS version is F.1B Rev. A.
Thank you.

Hi friend,
You can try to use and USB external keyboard (there are cheaps now) then you can use the Bios Mod by Donovan6k to unlock
many options on this Bios (55068 version), or Maxinator500 with a new Logo too, or Lightskreen :

Regards Hi, thank you for replying. I do not have an external keyboard nor do I plan on buying one. I don't want to buy a keyboard just for a single key. Is there any other work around to change the bios key?
EDIT- Also, can I flash the modded BIOS regardless? I have checked my BIOS update file and it's the same as sp-55068 as is mentioned in donovan6000's modded BIOS. Is there any chance that it might kick back the keyboard back to life? I have this doubt because once I had installed a driver for the keyboard and the directional keys (left and right) which don't work, started working. I did not try the f10 key at that time as I did not realize that it was non functional.

Hi, thank you for replying. I don't have an external keyboard nor do I want to buy one. Also, I don't speak the language, so could the communication be in English only (though I don't mind translating)?

None of the previously created mods will help. Drivers, at the stage of system boot, have no effect on the keyboard. The key is no longer functional at the hardware level. A new mod is required. Something similar was done here. And here are the keyboard key codes for changing data in padding, but such operations on HP bios are new to me, I regard them as risky. I ususally just do not answer such ones, so I leave modding up to others.

Hi, thank you for replying. I have checked both the links and I have to say that I am a complete newbie here. I've gone through the first link as much as I could and all I could see was Lenovo mods (I have skipped pages, so if I missed any HP update could you please inform me once?). Is there any such thread for an HP Laptop or is that all?
Secondly, the BIOS key codes. I am a beginner at coding and I have no idea as to what these refer to and how I can make use of them. All I could do was check if there was a key with the equivalent of f10 which there is none.
Thank you again.

There is nothing on the link about HP, but both HP and Lenovo use Insyde BIOS. I tried to find something more appropriate to your problem, but...
And I only had 10 minutes this morning to learn how to find a proper place for patch. I have looked at the modification of only one of the Lenovo BIOS list, and this is not enough for me to repeat it to make everything work the first time.
I hope that someone here can help you and the thread will not be inactive. Otherwise, I'll try to figure it out.

Thank you for replying. I really appreciate the support. This is not really on an urgent basis but it would be great if someone helped because I want to learn Ubuntu and other OS before I go to college. And as for the BIOS modification, I am ready to help in any way, shape or form. I can begin learning about it as I need to pursue the same. So it will be a learning curve for me. If there's anything that's consuming your time regarding my issue please let me know. I'll be happy to learn new stuff. Thanks again.
Also should I try flashing the BIOS with the modded one? Just to see if anything changes? Or is it too risky to do?

Ok thanks. I will put off BIOS flashing till I get a BIOS with the key changed.
