[Solved] Gigabyte 8I865GME-775-RH (rev. 2.0, 3.9, 6.6) & Pentium E5x00
#1
Hello,

I have a 8I865GME-775-RH (rev. 6.6) motherboard and I want to use a Wolfdale CPU to get more CPU performance on this retro-friendly platform. This board has official support for Conroe CPUs. I modded the BIOS, injected Wolfdale ucode and SLIC 2.1 into it. After this mod, my Pentium E5400 boots and runs my OSes without crashes, but the multiplier stucks at 6x, so only 1.2 GHz of CPU speed.

I tried many benchmarks and stress tests, and also other OSes, however the CPU still runs at 6x. On the BIOS - PC Health Status page, it shows Vcore = FAIL.

My problem is just like https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-R...tuck-at-6x - same family of Gigabyte 865 boards, and same 1.2 GHz problem with a Wolfdale CPU.

So a BIOS mod like the one above may just work on my board. I would be grateful if anyone can patch the BIOS for full CPU speed with my E5400.

I'm using my modified BIOS with SLIC, so it's better to use my mod (GME775.BIN) as the basis for this patch. I also posted the stock BIOS (GME775P2.FE.BIN) below.

Thanks in advance!

Other diagnostics:
Load BIOS defaults - no help
Remove and reinstall the clock battery - no help

This mod worked for me! My CPU is rated at 2.7 GHz, this mod lets it to run at 2.6 GHz, but the 0.1 GHz of difference doesn't matter. Many thanks.

This CPU scored 3720 in Fritz Chess Benchmark, compared to 3733 @ 2.7 GHz under a random G41 board.

CPU fractional multiplier is the reason of this.

Hi,

have a similar issue with ga-8i865gme-775 rev3.9 (award) bios. Added additional microcodes, cpu works (e5800), but speedStep isnt enabled, so stuck on 6x multiplier.

Any idea how to enable it is appriciated
