Dell Inspiron 1750 Qx9300 CPU Support
#1
Hi all, i've this laptop with A06 bios version and a T9900 mounted (not right now cause i've destroyed it). I ask you why the pc don't boot when i mount a Qx9300 cpu?

The chipset is GM45/GM47 by cpu-z and i've see inside the bios with "mcextract" that the microcode of the Qx9300 is here (cpu id 1067A, checksum 83067ECB).

What's wrong? I've tried with ddr2-800 and ddr2-667 memory, nothing changed, no boot (the pc just start with black screen and then turn off after few seconds, maybe checking something).

I've attached the bios (that for some reason aren't on the official dell website, here only A05, but also this one have the microcode inside).

PLEASE HELP!

A few motherboards with Socket P can boot quad cores CPUs. It's hardware incompatibility.
But you can try the motherboard's mod for quad core CPU supporting.

This is what i see and what i did (with hxd):

As you can see, on the left is the A06 bios that say 1067A with red NO on "last", on the right i've replaced the microcode with hxd (cpu1067A_platB1_ver00000A0E_2015-07-29_PRD_59BF808E.bin).

What you think? I'll brick the motherboard or it can work? If yes how i can flash it without using the original exe (that i've used from win)?

ps. fsb 1066 is supported because i've mounted the T9900, the problem is with quadcore (why there are microcode if aren't supported?)

It's not microcode issue.

Oh ok, so as i thought the microcode was ok inside the rom but the limitation is on the motherboard as you told me. It's useless to test with latest microcode that i've replaced with hxd?

Yes, it's useless.

Thanks a lot Bringer, still don't know why dell added microcode if the motherboard can't run them.

Again many thanks for your time ;-)

I keep hoping that someone will figure this out, but I'm guessing nothing will ever work.

I run a 1545, or actually, a 1750 motherboard with the ATI dGPU in a 1545 chassis, and I keep checking here every so often to see if someone figured out how to make a quad run. Even in Linux, the 2c/2t T9900 can only do so much these days.
