How To Activate Using A Confirmed SLIC Mod , Regardless Of Which OEM Media You Have
#1
Hello Everyone

We have seen quite a lot of replies to confirmed SLIC mods recently along the lines of:

Quote:"Can you please remod this with ??? slic instead of ???"

Im making this post to inform you that it doesnt matter what brand of SLIC we mod with as long as there is a valid key installed (Keys are not brand specific) and the correct certificate is installed which matches the SLIC table in the bios.

Following this example can save all of us some valuable time instead of remodding bioses which are already confirmed to work. While it only takes 5 minutes to remod, the amount of requests we have seen for these remods soon multiplies to be quite a lot of time indeed!

Example

1) A user has an Asus motherboard and request a mod.

2) To keep things simple, we try to match manufacturers of the board with the SLIC so we mod it with Asus 2.1 SLIC.

3) The original poster comes back confirming the mod as working. You also have this motherboard but you have Windows 7 OEM Installation discs for a different manufacturer eg Dell) so you want Dell 2.1 SLIC inserting.

4) We have to perform a remod using the SLIC you requested, despite having a confirmed working mod for this motherboard already completed.

So instead, follow these instructions , we will stay with the above example:-

1) Download the modded confirmed bios containing the Asus 2.1 SLIC.

2) Flash it and confirm with SLIC Dump Toolkit that your bios now contains a valid 2.1 SLIC Table. You can download it here:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/747181/SLIC_Dump_ToolKit.EXE

3) Install Windows 7 using the Dell OEM Media. Because its an OEM disc , the Dell certificate and valid oem key will be inserted automatically during the installation. If you are prompted for a key, continue the installation without entering one.

4) Upon completion of the installation, your computer will not be automatically activated as you have asus slic in the bios and dell certificate installed. As previously mentioned the installed key is not important as they are only version specific, not manufacturer specific ie. The Dell Home premium key will work for any SLIC as long as you install Home Premium.

5) Copy the certificate file (for Asus) located in the archive that contained the modded bios to the C: drive

6) After pasting this file into C-Drive, go to START - ALL PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES - COMMAND PROMPT. Right click on Command Prompt and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

7) When Command Prompt opens, type at the prompt: slmgr.vbs -ilc c:\********.xrm-ms and hit the Enter Button. Wait for the Script Host to answer you with a message that the license was installed successfully....this could take a few minutes and so be patient. This will overwrite the dell certificate that was automatically inserted during the installation.

8) Reboot the computer and check the system properties (right click my computer) to see if you are activated with an OEM product ID.

Because the SLIC table in your bios = Asus , the certificate you just installed was Asus and the key isnt manufacturer specific, you should now successfully be activated - saving us the trouble of a remod and also slightly improving your chances of a successful flash as the mod has already been confirmed.

Hope this tutorial was helpful to you
