Dell Inspiron 530 / 530s v1.0.2 Experimental Unlocking & Upgrading Project
(05-09-2017, 07:48 PM)dabb Wrote: The Inspiron 530s (slimline)/ 530 has a FoxConn G33m02 motherboard made to Dell's specifications and will support (as far as I know) the following Socket LGA 775 processors:

Intel Celeron Processor 420 (1.6 GHz, 800 FSB)
Intel Pentium Dual-Core 2140 (1.6 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)

Wolfdale Dual Core Kit, E8600, 3.33GHz, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, E0

You can use the same/default heatsink/fan and the 250w PSU Big Grin Remember new thermal compound.

Prior to installing the processor you need to check that you have BIOS Version 1.0.15, or higher, so it should work for you. But I would be more comfortably with the latest bios. Are you running 32 bit windows, then this is probably your problem. Run windows 7 x64 or newer (I`ll still in win7 x64, because win8 and win10 is garbage Dodgy

Does the Dell logo show up when you boot, and does it say only Inspiron under the logo? There are four different 530: 530, 530a, 530b, 530c (I don't know the difference, but some of them can run quad-core cpus, but only if you have the G33M03 mainboard and 350w PSU.

Thanks for all the information. I really appreciate it. Yes, the BIOS version is 1.0.16. At this time i am running windows 10, but vista 32 bit was installed at the time of processor upgrade. BIOS 1.0.18 has just a minor addition to Dell logo and no additional patches as per Dell documentations are included. I will for sure give it another try to the latest BIOS, but my main concern at this time is that sometimes the system fails to wake up from standby mode. Same issue can be found on this link:

Thank you again for all your help.

Anytime Big Grin This forum is worth saving Idea

I had a startup problem when I got the 530 (for free!) from one of the neighbour, but it didn't start at all most of the time. When I got it, I removed the memory 1 by 1 and one of them was faulty. I started ut the Dell with one 1gb left (or was it 2gb? My memory (and balance) has grown weak after partying a lot im my youth Big Grin ) and went for the 10.0.18 bios (in win7x64) , installed 8gb (4x2gb) one at a time (for some reason this can help if it don`t start after indroducing A LOT more ram than it was in it before). I finished with the CPU - and bob`s your uncle Cool  Be carefull when you remove the heat sink, it IS easily breakable Dodgy

I don`t know if memory gets broken over time, or it happens all of a sudden. Maybe it could be as simple as onboard battery needs changing?

I think I kind of found the problem. I still haven't checked the battery, but the problem was definitely caused by the VTx option enabled in the BIOS. So, as I mentioned in the previous post that after several reboots. The operating system would fail to enable or detect visualization and hyper-v option even though it was still enabled in the bios. After turning off the VTx feature, the system is now waking up from standby mode just fine. Now, could this be a problem in bios or cpu. I am not sure about this, but if I have another same processor then I can rule out the processor as well. For now I think I will just leave it as it is.  Thank you again for all your help.

According to Dell Inspiron 530 Manual to mod bios please use these steps:
[*]Restart the system. Click on Start, Turn off Computer and Restart.
[*]At the Dell loading screen Tap F2 to enter the BIOS. "Entering Setup" will appear when the command has been recognised. Certain models may use a different key. The key will be displayed during the boot process. For most Dell laptops and desktops, the key is F2.
[*]Once loaded, depending on BIOS age and type, you can reset the defaults by either using F9 key to Load Defaults (Shown as an option at the bottom of the screen), the Alt + F key combination, or the Load Defaults button shown on the screen, to load the factory defaults.
[*]Press Esc on your keyboard and select Save and exit, or click the Exit button, again depending on the version you have.
[*]Choose the Enter key to save all changes and exit the BIOS screen. Allow your system to restart for the BIOS settings to reset.

Sorry, but I don`t have that bios, but I may help Shy

What model is your MB (G33M02 or G33M03) and why do you need that bios?
Shure you don`t want the one from post #42?

Would also like a mirror of "Dell Inspiron 530 530s v1.0.2 Experimental Unlock Build 1 By 1234s282.zip" or whatever the most recent version was.

As I understand it, this BIOS update is very helpful to using this system for Hackintosh builds.

Yes, I'd like a mirror with the build 1.

I have the g33m02.
