Dell XPS m1730 - Unlock Power Supply checkup
#1
Information
as many users are getting the nasty error message that their power brick is a non-Dell and therefore the battery will not charge and the perfs will be limited to battery capable perfs (meaning browsing and copy/paste capable) SadSadSad

reading thru all the post, and seeing my recently modded Alienware M17x R2 working great, maybe the same could happen to a machine giving a lot of griefs to their users (the XPS 1730)

Can you get as minimum as "Disable" Dell power brick checks and make 1000s of users happy again Big Grin

Hi Hadron,

Please post the BIOS download link to the version you want me to look into.

Thanks,

Here it is:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R282332&SystemID=XPS_1730&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=13068&fileid=417399

the issue encountered is a "Invalid AC adapter found...", most of the users have had MB and power brick replaced countless times without much success.
Hopefully there would be a way to disable the Power Type or model check in the Bios to counteract this plague from within the Bios.

Thanks,
Hadron.

Its amazing, but I have exactly the same problem, I got the M1730 and the Alienware M17x-R2 and with your bios version my alienware is working perfectly so I start to think that maybe the same thing could work for the M1730 and I found this thread Smile

I have changed my power supply endless times, and now it isnt covered by the warranty anymore, so I cant continue spending 100$ every few months. Sad

Hey thanks for all you work btw.

Me Too Dell has been very unhelpful on this issue, only solution at this point is to buy yet another power supply...already bought 2 in three years

Do you guys think it will be possible to have a mod version of this Bios, I'm willing to pay for it.
