Dell BIOS locked?
#1
Hello I'm new here, but not new to puters.

Long story, but I ended up buying a secondhand Dell Omniplex GX150. It came with XP pro installed. So I get a nasty bug, and I can't access windows, so I install Kubuntu and retreave my windows stuff. I hate Linux!! grub stold the boot sequence, the arrows on the boot screen are frozen so no selecting to boot windows.

So I get a reinstation disk, and with the BIOS set to boot from cd, it don't.

I know that these disks will work once for a machine that it's not matched for.

The secondhand guy has a legal copy of windows, the one that was originally installed. He uses some kind of pre disk to set/lock/unlock the BIOS I think. Before installing the os.

The arrows don't work, that's grub, but what would I have to do to get Dells disk to boot? Secondhand guy says bring it down, but he's going to charge me again.

Are you not prompted to press a certain key at startup splash screen to select boot device? Try hammering f12 as soon as you switch it on!

Do you mean to say that someone else has locked your BIOS and that only that person can unlock it and change settings in it. If that's the case, you should not accept something like that.

Look for Dogbert's blog on the Internet. That guy has some interesting things for removing BIOS passwords.
