[REQUEST] PH317-53 BIOS Mod – 1440p Panel / EDID + 2070 Max-Q Unlock
#1
Hi,

I have an older Acer Predator Helios 300 PH317-53-72KP that I changed the screen panel in to a NE173QHM-NY1 V8.0 (1440p 165Hz).

It works, but the laptop's startup animation does not display correctly. If I disable it in the BIOS, it boots normally. No big deal, I don't really like the animation anyway.

However, in Windows 11 and Linux Mint the screen defaults to 1440p 60Hz. Using CRU, I managed to get 1440p 144Hz working perfectly in Windows. 1440p 165Hz also kind of worked, but the screen was glitchy. Maybe I had something set wrong in CRU, or the laptop simply can't do it. Adaptive Sync/VRR also does not work.

I'm wondering if the BIOS has some kind of panel whitelist or other display configuration that prevents the panel's EDID information from being passed through to the OS correctly.

If there is something like that and it is possible to remove or modify it, I would really appreciate it. Getting the panel working properly at 1440p 144Hz is the main thing I'm interested in. If 165Hz and Adaptive Sync/VRR can also be made to work, that would be great.

I would also be interested in unlocking the RTX 2070 Max-Q to a full RTX 2070, if possible, as well as better RAM/memory options and other useful hidden BIOS settings.

I dumped my BIOS using a CH341A. I made four reads and all four dumps are identical, and the chip is a Winbond W25Q128JV (16 MiB).

Thanks a ton in advance!
