i read alot about Mod-BIOS for my Lenovo G505s,
but no solution was found.
I am neither an expert nor an idiot, i did alot setting up etc. and i wanted to know if you guys can help me out.
Currently, my Laptop is running on BIOS v.3.0 and it can be downloaded here:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products...s-notebook
i'd be very thankful, if anyone here is able to create an unlocked BIOS for that thing, because actually you can't change ANYTHING, no RAM-Speed, no voltages, no frequencies, simply nothing at all...
Dear friend, I have a solution for your problem - Coreboot open source BIOS project supports Lenovo G505S
Source code is open, so you can modify EVERYTHING ! Please read my post here, for more information:

Dear friend, I have a solution for your problem. There is Coreboot open source BIOS project,
and it supports Lenovo G505S laptop. It is open source, so everything is unlocked,
no Wi-Fi whitelists, and you can modify the BIOS source code as much as you want!
Please check out my post here for more information:

It's not so easy like You said
1. get Sources
2. Compile to get flashable file
3. use Flashrom tool with a right SPI PGM ( http://flashrom.org/Technology#Communica...s_protocol)
4. pray to get working laptop
I can say that project is good and smart beautifull for Developers !
But for normal user (and I helped a lot of to use SPI PGM) is very difficult.
many thanks for your report (have You tried It ? )
Regards

Yes I have tried it with my G505S, and although didn't have any previous experience with BIOSes, let alone compiling them,
after carefully studing all the available information at coreboot wiki's - I have achieved the successful boot from the very first flashing!
But can I flash it only through USB SPI flasher + SOIC-8 test clip , because for some reason flashrom tool fails for me all the time...
So every time I need to update this BIOS I have to teardown a laptop, which is quite easy though (thanks to helpful photos/videos of teardown)
It wasnt that hard, but if someone still can't do it and there will be a request, I can share my 100% working BIOS flashable file
(but I am a new user here and don't have such a high reputation as you, BDMaster,
so people will need to trust that I wouldn't put any spying tool in this BIOS image )

Just dont forget to clarify if your model is G505 or G505S. These models have different hardware,
and for example G505 S is supported by Coreboot while G505 does not seem to be supported...
Probably their BIOSes are not compatible with each other (although I didnt have a chance to try it out)

Alright, so I am also trying to get the BIOS unlocked on the G505s. I am trying the coreboot option, but I'm getting really confused by the process and honestly need some guidance.
Following THIS tells me that I just need to pick my machine out of the list, build the file, and flash it while THIS tells me that I need to get the NIC firwmare, AMD IMC, and AMD XHCI on top of the VGA BIOS all from my "vendors bios" since coreboot can't provide those files on it's own. My problem is Lenovo only provides a .exe for their BIOS update (at least for this model) and not an actual .rom file. I have extracted the .exe using uniextract, but I only find many other .exe files, .dll, .sys, .ini. and a single .bin file. I would assume the .bin is what I am after, but I don't know how to extract the necessary files from it to get the NIC firwmare, AMD IMC, AMD XHCI, and VGA BIOS components.
I was trying to work off of DrInformer's post, but seeing as he is running a Linux distro on the laptop and is physically tapping directly into the EEPROM, it's not doing me any good as I am working off of windows.
I have been running a Linux VM on my desktop so I can compile everything that I am after, but I am by no means a Linux wiz, I hardly know what I doing on there.
Can anyone lend me some guidance here!?
Thanks,
Frizzy

Ey i am happy this thread is finally going somewhere XD
by the way, BDMaster, ashcon1999 was my old account on this forum...my email account was hacked so could not retrieve password.
So, if you can remember, we had a bit of a PM session about this laptop over summer...I will be getting an externel programmer for christmas so flashing will begin soon YAY!
Also, DrInformer, could you please show me an image of where the bios chip is on the motherboard as i can see one 8 legged chip under the southbrige chip in the maintenance hach on the laptop. However, it is covered with a bit of the case, so i should be able to cut the chassis and flash without having to disassemble the laptop entirely
Kind regards.
