Thanks Frok1966!
So, just to be sure: I've got an acer 5740g with an i3 processor m330 2.13GHz. Is it OK to upgrade this rig to the CPU 20655 and the I7-640M ? I've found it online used at interesting (low) prices.
Should I upgrade the cooling hardware too?
As for the SAta caddy not being recognized: I've read elsewhere that it's a bios version problem, and in the latest version, at least 1.28+ the problem has been fixed.
Meanwhile I've mounted my SSD HD as the main one in the first sata connector, so I kept my DVD recorder in and everything boots fine.
again, thank you very much in advance!!!
Hello,
My suggestion is: flash again the bios with the official one and start to understand which components could be the cause of bios hanging each time.
Once you have found the issue, replace the component. have you tried to replace the RAM? or the small battery? remove the WIFI and Bluetooth card.
Once you have fixed the issue then you can start to upgrade with the new BIOS and if you wish with a powerful CPU.
The Updated BIOS (with the latest microcode) does not unlock the bios.
Hope this answer to your doubt

I landed in this forum to solve a problem with bios hanging at boot eachtime I connect a sata caddy in the dvd sata slot, with a sata disk.
The disk was recognized by the bios but it hang up at boot.
Can I upgrade the cpu buying a used i7-640m online, and the use the bios Eugen88 provided?
It would also avoid spectre and meltdown vulnerabilities?
Would it show me locked bios menu screens too?
thank you very much in advance.
