Enable raid 1 and 0 on Dell precision m4500
#1
I hope this isn't asking too much but is there any possibility of getting this intel
Raid option rom in this bios unlocked so that raid 0 and 1 are available instead of just recovery mode? It seems like Dell just locked it out for no good reason.
Im currently posting from my phone, however a fresh copy of the a06 bios is available at dells support site. I'll provide anything you need that I can get my hands on. I would really appreciate the help with this it just seems like such a waste not to be able to raid on this notebook.

I didn't want to post bios file since it is in exe format. However I figured a fresh copy from their site would keep anyone from worrying about a virus or something like that.

I will post from my m4500 as soon as the new hdd I got is done being cloned onto.

Please let me know if this is possible.
Thanks!

Okay so i think if i can get ahold of a compatible non castrated option rom for the intel raid this can be done. i am hitting a roadblock at getting started though. does anyone know how to get the actual rom files out of the dell EXE file? universal extractor cant open it, nor 7-zip. if anyone has any insight it would be greatly appriciated. and also if there are any other pitfalls to look out for.

thanks again.

You run it and grab the file from your temporary files directory. While it's running (not flashing, but either the flasher open or if you do it on another machine then leave the "You do not have an m4500 so I am so not flashing this for you" window open... Go to task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) and go to the processes tab. Find the process of the flasher, right click, "Open File Location".

Feel free to use/link/host any BIOS I post, no credit necessary. However, this is at your own risk and I take no responsibility. Always keep a backup of a known-good BIOS. Don't flash a motherboard if you don't have a backup computer just in case.

Always use RAID mode. RAIDFix

I feel like ive tried everything at this point but it doesnt look like the EXE is unpacking the rom files anywhere. does anyone have any other ideas for utilitys that i could try?

thanks again!

Does it run a file? did you try the open file location in taskmgr after getting as far as you can? If so, did it open to the same location as the actual file that you ran?

Sorry about the late reply, ended up having to get the laptop exchanged and get my data moved over due to a video card issue.

anyway. yeah, i run the bios update and it just doesnt seem like its extracting anywhere, ive checked about every hidden folder i can think of. i have read that this bios update type writes to ram and reboots to perform the update, so i dont know if maybe the data is formatted differently than your standard bin/rom/hdr file and maybe thats why i cant find anything.
-writeromfile, -writehdrfile dont work with this bios update.
additionally i cant seem to find any tool that will actually extract anything from it. even a couple of apps that were built for extracting resources from exe files dont see anything more than text strings. its like the payload doesnt exist. lol...

if anyone has any light they can shed on this or has experience dealing with this type of bios update please let me know.

also does anyone know if this is a phoenix, award or ami bios? or maybe something else all together.

thanks again.

this is a "Dell Phoenix" bios

Not a regular phoenix and currently not moddable for anything except SLIC - You have Dell to thank for their unique format Tongue
