MCP61: MCP61PM-HM, MCP61PM-AM Motherboard Info
#11
MCP61PM-AM In a Gateway GT5414E.

CPU is Windsor 4600+

I successfully flashed the Abit BIOS; thanks for the USB flash guide, I feel a lot more comfortable doing this on my own having the exact procedure explained step by step.

Max multiplier is 12x though, and max CPU Volts is 1.4. I can raise the FSB to the sky, but I don't see an FSB Volt anywhere so it's only stable up to 212-213 or so.

Am I missing something here? And if this is as good as it gets with the Abit BIOS, should I give the Foxconn BIOS a try?

Yeah you could probably move onto the foxconn. I don't really get what you mean by FSB voltage, its normally either CPU VCore or chipset voltage which voltage city is definitely foxconn.

Whoa quick reply. Yeah meant chipset voltage (corresponds to FSB speed right?)

Did some more googling since I made that post, I'm guessing the CPU is locked at 12x...

Anyways I tried the Foxconn BIOS in the zip file from the thread, AWDFLASH wouldn't let me do it because the model numbers didn't match. What to do?

You can add the /f switch to force the flash. be carefull to just tack it on to the end of the usual commandline though. I've never tried the foxconn myself, best of luck Big Grin

Success. /f switch tacked on with all the other switches recommended in the guide.

Another thumbs up for the Foxconn BIOS.

Now to figure out what all these volt values mean:

NPT Fid control - CPU Multi
NPT Vid control - CPU Volts
DRAM Voltage - DRAM Volts
VTT Voltage - Termination Volts
Chipset V-dual - Don't know
Vcore Voltage - Don't know
Chipset Vcore - Chipset Volts

Am I right so far? still don't know about the V-dual and the Vcore Voltage though...

VCore voltage is your primary CPU voltage, ranging anywhere from 1.2-1.4 depending on the CPU (my dual core is 1.3 reg I think?)

Not sure about the VDual, I have never used that before.

TheWiz

What other options are in the foxconn again besides the voltage? It's been a while.

Just the DRAM settings, FSB speed and HT settings, other than that nothing out of the ordinary.

For some reason I can't seem to get a decent overclock on the board now. The bios seems to keep wanting to default back to 200mhz FSB when I raise past 204mhz or so. I got it up to 230mhz, and it seemed to run fine, but then when I restarted later on it paused for a while before POST and defaulted back to 200mhz again.

I set the HT settings manually (HT Speed 1.0-5.0, HT Width 8x or 16x) and that seems to keep the FSB up, but now the multiplier won't hold what I set it at. The bios setting stays at 11x or whatever I set it at, but when I boot up and check in Piriform Speccy it says the multiplier is at 10x or below depending on what I set the FSB speed at. For some reason it just doesn't want the processor to go above 2.4gHz now...

There was that one time when I booted in and was running at 230mhz or so (forget what exactly) and kept the 11x multiplier, but other than that no luck. I'm going back to the abit bios for right now... If there's a way around this I'll switch back again.

BTW, are there any consequences to flashing the BIOS over and over again, besides of course the chance that something might go wrong each time you flash? I seem to remember hearing somewhere certain types of flash memory can be like CD-RW memory, in that it starts to deteriorate every time you flash.

You don't have to start worrying about chip deterioration until you are well 100 flashes. What CPU/RAM is on the board?

hello all

i have a motherboard with mcp61 but i haven't option to overclock
this is a packard bell model mcp61dm2ma ( http://img16.allegroimg.pl/photos/orygin...1425679718 ) very similar to foxconn mcp61pm2ma ( http://pclab.pl/zdjecia/artykuly/khedron...ukos_b.jpg ) but without vga , printer port sata etc...
i want to know if i can use the foxconn bios's or abit perhaps?

thanks for all

Either one is a fair shot but we haven't tested that particular model before so we cannot affirm that it will work for sure. If you are able to try it though you would simply follow the same instruction set. I would start with the ABIT before the foxconn, asuming you are willing to test. I'd be willing to re-program your chip for free if anything went awry (see chip recovery page for details)

Thanks,
TheWiz
